rwx
Hey there, I know there are many, many, many desktop and website wallpaper sites out there but since I am not into this, I have no idea which ones are legitimate. When I say legitimate, I refer to copyright. I don't want to end up using a wallpaper from a website claiming to be "free" and get complaint later "hey, you are using my wallpaper, it's copyrighted" - but I got it from this site and it said it was free. What would you recommend? I am interested more about pattern backgrounds etc...

techbeck
Deviantart I guess? What I normally use. Or Google's image search. Microsoft also has a lot of Windows themes that come with many wallpapers.
Copernic Reporter Posted April 26, 2013 Reporter Share Posted April 26, 2013 For personal use - I don't think there's any copyright related problem. If you want to start a wallpaper site than that's a different story.
rwx
What I normally use. Or Google's image search. Microsoft also has a lot of Windows themes that come with many wallpapers. Google image search is not reliable at all in terms of copyright as far as I am aware. You simply get "Image may be subject to copyright". I am aware of Devianart but that is unreliable because it doesn't tell us about the license. Pick any image and see if you can tell if it is "free for personal use", "free", or "GPL" etc....When you try to email the developer, you won't get a reply. P.S. I do not want to start a wallpaper site. I implied I want to find a wallpaper site where we can clearly distinguish between free (or payware) for commercial use. The best I know so far is iconspedia.com but that's for icons. The good thing is you can select the license and search.

Setnom
I love wallbase. Don't know about that copyright stuff. Not really important in my book, I guess. If someone comes up to you and complain, just say "this is my computer, not yours." :p

Marshall Veteran Posted April 27, 2013 Veteran Share Posted April 27, 2013 Best site for wallpapers is wallbase. As for copyrights they're free for personal use unless stated otherwise. Normally wallpapers that are for sale are heavily watermarked.
