Samsung Galaxy S4 stock issues

Recommended Posts

Many Britons keen to get their hands on Samsung's S4 phone look likely to be disappointed.

Samsung has said that "unprecedented" demand for the handset has meant stocks were running low in the UK.

UK operators have been sending messages to many people who pre-ordered the S4, warning that the handset would reach them after the official launch date.

Some messages say people may have to wait up to a week to get hold of the new phone.

Samsung unveiled the Galaxy S4 in mid-March and planned the worldwide launch for 27 April. Interest in the phone is high because of some of the novel technologies, such as the ability to control it with a glance, that are built in.

However, many people who pre-ordered the phone so it would arrive on launch day may now get their handset later.

"There's been unprecedented demand for the Galaxy S4 in the UK," Samsung told BBC Radio 4's You and Yours. Many people contacted the programme to report that they had received messages from operators and others retailers warning about the shortage of S4s in the UK. Some were given a delivery date of 3 May, almost a week later than originally planned.

Everyone should wait to buy this, a couple of months and it will be half price. At least with no contract option. Samsung products are hugely over-priced at start, it devalues like a rocket returning to earth.

A decent buy is a 2nd hand used Samsung S3, value for money is pretty nice. Never buy a plastic samsung first handed. Its a waste of money, its a plastic gadget if you look and feel at it. The only Android i would buy would be Nexus, its the only one with the best firmware and the best updates ignoring the construction materials.

Im amazed that people are buying S4 before other labels present their option. Its my sincere opinion.

I feel like this is a overhyped device - the GS2/3 were better and Touchwiz was not as bloated. But, Touchwiz has gotten so overly bloated, and this phone just includes so many unnecessary features. Thankfully you can root/ROM this device, which I'd definitely do if I bought it.

Not so fast.. ROM support for this device is going to be very limited like the HTC One X+ due to the chipset.. Nvidia won't release any drives or code.. There will be some custom roms.. but don't expect anything like the GS3 or some other phones..

Samsung has gone crazy with their popularity. Mostly gimmicky features and I dont see it selling as well as the SGS3. I am more interested in the HTC One, tho I am sticking with Nexus devices.

What does Nvidia have to do with the GS4? The GS4 has a Snapdragon 600 (US), and Exynos 5 Octa (international)...

Oh, someone told me that it was Nvidia lol.. But I still read where modders will have a hard time making custom roms for it

I doubt it - XDA already has ROM's for this device, and considering it's brand new (not available widely in US yet), that's pretty good news for the ROM community. Just give it more time, and there will be plenty of ROM's.

Plastic argument is getting old. Check xda for pro's and con's of aluminum and plastic. You can buy it and wear it around your neck as an accessory. I care what's under the hood.

I am very happy with weight and feel of the S4. Metal is obviously better but obviously heavier.

It's amazing the technology they have managed to squeeze into that chassis. I like it lots.

It has many improvements. Temperature, pressure, humidity sensors. In built pedometer which is handy, the screen is the best out there.

There are so many things that people are labelling as gimmicks that simply aren't, and add to the over all usability of the device

Better? Sure, if you like encasing your antenna inside what is essentially a Faraday cage. Also, don't drop it! Unlike plastic which has some spring to it, metal just dents horribly.

Yawn, nobody cares. All hardware that reaches a popularity level gets this stock issue. Moreover, waiting a few months - it's still gonna be made of plastic

The stock issue is often deliberate anyway. Keep it in short stock, drive up the desire, keep the price high.

I thought this had been shown to no longer be the case, as it actually impacts sales? People go to buy a phone on Saturday, they buy on Saturday, not wait for release dates, stock, etc?

Not with highly desirable "fashion items". People that want things like an iPhone or an S4 aren't going to settle for an alternative.

I have no preference. But the general concensus is that the metal cased phones have a more 'premium' feel. By better I mean that a majority of people would prefer metal over plastic any day.

What is useful to one person is bloat to another. I used an S4 at an AT&T store, and yes, I can say (for me) that Touchwiz is bloated and gets in the way of a good Android experience. Coming from a stock Android experience (ala Galaxy Nexus), I found Touchwiz to be extremely convoluted.

I'd say the screen is one of the best out there - not sure you could definitively say its 'the' best considering how many other good 1080p screens are out there. Some people don't like amoled screens too.
