Windows Phone hits 5.6% marketshare in the U.S.

It?s all too easy to dismiss Microsoft?s mobile ambitions as blip on the global radar compared to onslaught of the Android and iOS app ecosystems. But new figures show that Windows Phone?s sliver of the market is growing at a slightly faster rate than Android?s in the United States.

Smartphones running Windows Phone accounted for 5.6% of all smartphones sales in the three months ending March 2013, according to new research from Kantar Worldpanel ComTech, up from 3.7% a year ago.

That marks a moderately bigger increase in share than Android, whose 47.9% share of the market rose to 49.3%. Apple?s iOS slipped from 44.6% to 43.7% of all smartphones sold in the U.S., while BlackBerry?s share dropped form 2.6% to 0.9%.

I just got my lumia 920 today and I really dig it.

Hopefully, the windows phone platform catches on more over the years.

That's a nice increase for them. They still have a long way to go, though.

At some point you figure it will see a jump as it hits a certain mass. Android didn't start off faster iirc till it hit double digit share and accelerated after that. Either way if they keep this up I think they can reach 10% by the end of the year.
