Man loses life savings on carnival game

Recommended Posts

A New Hampshire man who thought he had a decent ball toss says he lost his life savings?or about $2,600?playing a carnival game he claims was rigged.

Henry Gribbohm told WBZ-TV that he was attempting to win an Xbox Kinect at the Manchester carnival when things went awry.

The 30-year-old from Epsom, N.H., was playing a game called Tubs of Fun in which contestants toss balls into a tub, but the balls kept popping out.

?It?s not possible that it wasn?t rigged,? Gribbohm said. ?You just get caught up in the whole ?I?ve got to win my money back.??

Gribbohm lost $300, WBZ-TV reports, "went home to get $2,300 more and soon lost all of that as well."

Manchester police are investigating the incident, and New Hampshire-based Fiesta Shows, which produces the traveling carnival, is pulling Tubs of Fun for the time being.

Gribbohm, who managed to win a stuffed banana with dreadlocks before dropping $2,600, says he's considering a lawsuit.

?For once in my life I happened to become that sucker,? Gribbohm said.

Most games that involve somebody needing to throw something onto/into something else are rigged.

Well if your life savings is only $2600, I can see how you might make a bad decision like that.

My life savings is less than the initial 300 and I'm not that airheaded!

Gambling/prize games are not bloody likely to make you money whether the game is fixed or not.

Yeah, once. Sure.

Although, if he successfully sues, he might end up with more than $2600. Maybe this is a cunning plan of his.

I don't understand how he could have thought getting the extra $2,300 would benefit him at all. Even if he won the Kinect, that would barely pay back the original $300. Its not like Vegas where you have the chance to win back everything plus more. There's a set limit to the prize. The most he should have even spent was the value of the Kinect, as winning it would at least have broke even.

I thought that was odd too, as will the Judge most likely. It seems he was going into this with full intent to lose all his savings and then cried when it happened.

It's pretty common knowledge that these games are rigged.

That's irrelevant - it's illegal to rig such games and people shouldn't have to worry that they are being ripped off.

People should always worry that they are being ripped off, usual consequence in neglect of that is -- shock and awe -- being ripped off.

I can't feel too sorry for them since he left and got more money and came back.

I went to the world fair a few years ago.. In Hong Kong. Played the gun pellet game. First game found that the gun was shooting to the left. Re-zeroed my mark and after that I kept winning. After 5 games the guy would not let me play any more. won 5 large bears. gave 4 of them to passer bys with kids.

Oh look what the ignorant righteous train brought.

We should all hug and share the love.
