3 character minimum search limitation = :(

Recommended Posts

If i go to the forums and search for "windows 8" or "raspberry pi" or "playstation 4" i get this message:

"One or all of your search keywords were below 3 characters or you searched for words which are not allowed, such as 'html', 'img', etc, please increase the length of these search keywords or choose different keywords."

Please remove this limitation when used with 1 or more words that have 3 or more letters, it is real choir to use the forums as a result of this.

EDIT: Btw i can still vote on my own topic here, i just voted it 5 stars to show you, you could do with removing this ability too.

That would be a limitation of Invision Power Board and MySQL really. Not much can be changed as far as I know.

If you search

raspberry pi
you see the error, but but if you search
"raspberry pi"
and include the quotes, you can search it because it's not three characters that the system is looking for.

Doesn't matter. Can you imagine the search results for 1 or 2 characters. It just isn't unique enough.

The articles that match the word "it" for example.

This is why "raspberry pi" is the way to go.

This site isn't running on MySQL... It's running on SQL Server last I heard

It's running MySQL, always has been, we may be a MS site, but there's no MS tech on the backend

Using a single quote seems to work better for getting search results.

For example:

Windows '8'

Raspberry Pi'

Playstation '4'

Hypocrisy! Blasphemy!

<-- Proposing that the next version of Neowin runs on MS Access... somehow.

Be good if they took short terms and whitelisted them to be indexed rather than ignored. No it or no or if, Im thinking this is a possibility with mySQL. Im pretty sure I can do 1 char searches. lots of results tho so lots of processing power.
