Yet another ambitious upcoming game has generated a ton of money from gamers to help fund its development via Kickstarter. This time, the game is Camelot Unchained, a MMO game from developer City State Entertainment that was launched by Mythic Entertainment founder Mark Jacobs.
Camelot Unchained had an ambitious $2 million Kickstarter goal, but today the campaign ended with the project exceeding that goal with a few hours to spare. Kickstarter backers ultimately pledged $2.2 million. Jacobs will also put in $2 million of his own money to help fund the game's developer, with an additional $1 million coming from unnamed investors.
As far as the game itself, City State Interactive says:
Camelot Unchained takes one part classic legends, adds a twisty little apocalyptic passage, and mixes in a whole batch of creativity to birth not just another “me and my WoW-clone”, but a unique RvR-focused MMORPG. It is against the backdrop of an almost unrecognizable world that our game unfolds. While the Kickstarter campaign has ended, the developer is still taking donations via PayPal. Camelot Unchained is going to take a while to create; the Kickstarter page estimates that it will officially launch in December 2015.
