Slayer Guitarist Jeff Hanneman Dead at 49

Slayer guitarist and founding member Jeff Hanneman died earlier today of liver failure. He was 49.

The band's longtime publicist issued the following statement today:

"Slayer is devastated to inform that their bandmate and brother, Jeff Hanneman, passed away at about 11AM this morning near his Southern California home. He was 49. Hanneman was in an area hospital when he suffered liver failure. He is survived by his wife Kathy, his sister Kathy and his brothers Michael and Larry, and will be sorely missed."

Billboard will have more on this news shortly.

Just posted this on Facebook myself. Totally sucks.

Honestly King just needs to call it quits now.

He already had tainted the legacy of the band by continuing to tour without Hanneman and Lombardo, and now it is a matter of respect.

RIP Jeff.

Never a Slayer fan but respect their place in metal history.

Jeff was always a much better guitarist and much less of a ****** than Kerry, in my opinion

pickled liver from too much partying?

More likely related to his ongoing issues with the flesh eating virus

Sad to see him go, hope they release whatever it was they were working on with him before they retire
