Fan Speed Issue

Recommended Posts

Just recently while playing any game one of my fans will just get insanely loud. I'm not sure which one it is exactly, but I do know it isn't on my graphics card. I was pretty much wondering if this sounds like I may just need a new fan or is there possibly something else going on?

It's most likely your entire case that has bad airflow. What case you have?

Pinpoint which fan it is, then tighten the screws. Failing that, replace it. Could be a worn bearing, and decent fans are not expensive

I would like to know what case you are using also, if it has a removable side hatch, then under gaming, I'd recommend removing it to improve airflow, unless like mine, it has fans installed to it, (I have 7 inmine, just to be safe, if one fails, I have 6 to take up the slack)

Also, how competent are you at disassembling cooling fans?

I only ask as when my fans 'dry out' nearly 100% of the time (for me at least) all you really need to do is work some oil into the rotor spindle, then work the spindle back and forth, and turn the fan until it turns freely again, personally I use a tiny drop of hair oil, and yes as silly as it sounds, it actually works, (the downside is, you do get the smell of the oil used in your room, but the smell goes away after a few hours)

I haven't bought any fans in 10 or so years (no joke) as one hasn't totally failed beyond repair yet.

(I know to most this would seem silly, but it works for me, please bear that in mind before you decide to tear me apart for my choices)

I pulled it out and oiled it. Reinstalled it and made sure everything was tight. Seems like that did the trick, thanks for the ideas!
