From Fat to Fantastic ....

(CNN) -- Deidre Robinson's cheeks flushed as two ride attendants tried to push her safety guard into the lock position.

At 310 pounds, Robinson knew she'd have restrictions at the theme park, but that didn't make her feel any less humiliated when she was told she couldn't ride the roller coaster with her daughter.

"There was a big guy next to me and his snapped," she said. "I thought, 'There's something wrong with that.' Obviously I was a lot bigger than he was."

The 2007 event was one of several turning points for Robinson, now 31, who was eventually inspired to join Weight Watchers and start doing Zumba, a Latin-inspired dance fitness class, in February 2009.

Less than two years later, the South Carolina native had dropped more than half her body weight -- going from a size 24 to a size 2 -- and was ready turn her healthy lifestyle into her livelihood. :woot:

^ 'Girls' do not exist to please you. ;)

Oh really? Tell me more about how you chose your girlfriend/boyfriend (don?t know if you?re straight or gay) because you thought she/he was ugly? :p

Let?s be honest, we all have preferences when it comes to girls/boys? body shape, hair color, bigger/smaller breast, more/less muscular, taller or shorter, race, skin color, etc.

Spot on ;)

Good on her for getting healthy! She looks great, especially compared to before, and you know she feels better. What an inspiration.

Great question. In the panty line. She looks like she lost a lot, naturally or otherwise.

Not necessarily true, depending on her age, how long she was obese and genetics, her skin could very well go right back

Also, a lot of people mistake excess skin when they still have lots of fat to lose, fat loss isn't uniform so unless you lose it ALL

it can look like excess skin even when it's not, and the skin is still holding on to the fat.

How did you come to that line of thinking from his post? He simply stated a preference, something every human being has.

Um yes actually it is very possible to look like that without surgery and with a lot of hard work.

At 310lbs, not possible. It's a matter of physics, the skin has to go somewhere and it does not "go back." You actually have it backwards, people think they still have lots of fat to lose when they have excess skin, it can hold water in the space. They don't look like their actual weight because of the skin. Skin is skin, it's there or it's not. it is impossible to mistake fat for skin, it is however possible to mistake skin, and the water it's holding or simply space and some fat, for lots of fat.

Its not physics at all, this is biology, and I think you misunderstood what I meant, fat loss is not uniform, so you'll get fat cells left all over the place, giving that

appearance of excess skin, when it's not excess because the body is still storing fat/water there, sure there are cases where there is excess skin, but in most cases

it's an impatience thing as it takes a long time for the skin to "bounce" back, which requires the body to realize and absorb the excess fat cells first, this process requires

one you stay fit for a long time, most dieters will bounce back and forth too often for this to happen, it requires dedication and a lifestyle change but is possible.

if you pinch the back of your hand(assuming you don't have obese hands) that's roughly the thickness of your skin, if your belly skin isn't like that, you have excess fat

cells in there keeping the skin from shrinking.

Metabolism is biological, skin, the amount, and its resiliency is physical. There's not such thing as "bounce back." Explain to me the physical characteristics of skin cells bouncing back? Even the youngest girls when pregnant, have skin that remains loose and definitely stretch marks. There's always the rare exception, but most hide it or have it removed. There's no magic here, everything has to go somewhere, skin does not disappear. It's not something that many, especially women discuss, they usually deal with it and have it severe excess removed. But it is a physical reality.

Looking at her navel, I would say she has dealt with her excess skin. Her choice of bikini bottom would suggest panty line scar. Since she's not in a G-string we won't know. I have no problem with it, she looks great. But it is a myth that obese people magically have skin that held hundreds of excess pounds just disappear, or "bounce back."

I was using "bounce" back as it was the most common term people use, hence the quotes, skin does have elasticity to some extent, breaking that is when you

get the stretch marks(which will always be there, but those too can shrink), mainly caused when weight is gained too fast for the skin to adapt.

It's pointless to argue about this, it doesn't really matter, excess skin or not, it's far more healthy to have that than the skin AND all the fat that used to be there

So good for her, I hope she keeps it off for the rest of her life.

PS: There were other photos showing lower down on her belly, still no visible scarring, I suspect she worked her ass off and there are none.

Not arguing. And I agree with what you said. To some extent. But years of obesity is generally way beyond that. How hard she works has nothing to do with skin. And I agree she worked hard, her muscle development, which is excellent for a woman is a testimony to that. And Zumba and Bodypump are quite challenging.

The fitness industry is so much smoke and mirrors, and drugs, and not really serving people who actually need help :/ I think the issue is important because many who lose a lot of weight, whether naturally or with some type of surgical or medical procedure, are often still depressed depending on how bad their skin situation is and whether or not they can afford to deal with it. If figure competitors can have implants, there should be no shame in people who lose weight dealing with the skin.
