ELK GROVE, CA -- The debate between vegan students and those that eat meat at Elk Grove High School has made its way onto Instagram and other social networks, and the words being used aren’t all that pleasant.

“[One student] keeps posting about goats and sheep and pigs and dead pictures and them being slaughtered,” said agriculture student Katie Velon.

The online allegations also include angry words for the schools Ag program, saying it “leads to the slaughtering of animals” and even describing how animals are drained of blood while their hearts are still beating.

But Ag students say they’re proud of what they do and of what they’re learning.

“I don’t think it’s fair for people to be saying that, because they don’t understand the work we put into all these animals. And it’s something we voluntarily do,” said student Miranda McCurry.

The debate heated up online after outside vegan groups became involved, calling meat eaters “carcass crunchers.” Some students have also reportedly been passing out fliers on campus.

Back on the farm, Ag students make no apologies for raising animals for food, though do understand the vegans’ concerns.

“It’s depressing,” Velon told FOX40. “But it’s still fun to work with [the animals] while they’re alive.”

One of the vegan students involved spoke with FOX40 but declined to go on camera. She said that no vegan Elk Grove student has used the “carcass cruncher” term and that she has not passed out any fliers.

Umm, and? That's how it's done. The animal is stunned unconscious, hung up by its hind quarters, and it's throat cut. It's dead in less then a minute, fast and painless. They make it sound like it's some kind of brutal act, but it's not. Unlike with Halal meats, the animal feels no pain.

If people can't accept how animals are killed for their consumption, they shouldn't eat meat.

Meanwhile it's been proven that halal and kosher slaughter doesn't cause pain either.

They're redundant religious based slaughter techniques, but they don't cause pain

Vegans have to bully people online. They don't have the energy or strength to do it in person.

If I got to choose how to go, that'd be a preferable way to go.

I've watched halal slaughters; they're far from painless, no matter what "proof" you might think you've read.

I've yet to meet one that hasn't had to take large amounts of dietary supplements just to stay in decent condition.

That makes no sense, will you let me use the stun gun on you? Will it be painful if I use a taser on you?

Now, will you feel anything (for a few seconds at-least) if a sharp object cut part of your body?

I have experienced it, 10 years ago when I came to Karachi, part of my work was to load trucks with boxes of tiles, one time while loading a box I did not realize that the tiles were broken, I took the box and put it on the truck and carried on for quite a few minutes until I realized that my fingers were getting sticky, it was blood, and no when you are working in scorching heat of Karachi with year round dust, the only thing you're looking at is finishing the job. And I bet during your lifetime you must have had cut yourself with a sharp object realizing later that you were cut. Now explain to me how an animal would feel pain if the head is chopped off within 5~10 seconds with a sharp knife, depriving the brain of oxygen?

On the topic, I love meat, I could care less how my meat is slaughtered, just that the pieces of meat I get are perfectly cut. May sound brutal, but I don't care.

I've watched halal slaughters; they're far from painless, no matter what "proof" you might think you've read.

I have done 'halal' slaughters they are far more painless than using a stun gun first.

What you say defies logic.
1. Stun the animal (PAIN!)
2. Slit the throat

OR
1. Slit the throat till the backbone and severe all veins taking blood to the brain, inducing coma (coma part is what I think).

You can't "see" pain in a slaughter. Your humanely slaughtered cows would show the same signs of "pain if they weren't trussed up.

When I was in somewhere between 1st and 3rd grade I believe, my class went to the farm of the twins in my class. There we saw a pid get slaughtered with a "hammer gun"(whatever they're called) to the head. That pig didn't feel a thing, but you sure as hell couldn't tell it from watching.

You can only tell pain by measuring signals sent through the odd, not by watching what the body does. With halal slaughter, you don't feel the cut, just as you don't feel a sharp knife cut your finger till a while later, by the time the cow registers any pain, it's already dead. The electric shock contrary to what they want you to believe has nothing to do with pain, it's to knock it out while they truss her up.

Makes a lot of sense if it gets someone to think about the suffering animals can go thru.

Why would I care about the suffering my food goes through. and heck, most food animals over here are treated better than most humans. getting tazed isn't exactly the same as getting a stun shot to the nervous system anyway.

animals in england are cared for pretty well except battery hens where theres loads kept in small cages but its labelled on the packaging how there raised and we as consumers vote with our wallets. If we were so unhappy at how these animals are treated we wouldnt buy the stuff that comes from them. Ultimately theres only a minority that actually cares. Also these vegans moaning about it, i bet they buy there clothes from cheap shops which basically use slave labour to produce there clothing so if thats the case then there hypocrits. Save the animals... screw the little kids working for 10p an hour doing 14 hour days!
