Win8 Pro - Remove MS Account Login

Recommended Posts

Is there a way to remove the Microsoft Account login from the login screen on a domain? Looking for GPO or registry key.

Haha. Thanks for that, and I actually found that exact thread. The issue is that after imaging, the default login is the Microsoft Account. Knowing our general userbase, they won't know what to do to get to the domain login. Not to mention, it's just a pain, considering they need to login to the domain every time. Also, I can't go to every machine to make this particular step happen every time. We have about 400 machines we'll be imaging over the summer and putting Windows 8 on it (unless I don't get the kinks worked out, then we'll just stick with Win7).

will this help

Fortunately, there's a way to bypass it. Here's how:

1. Boot your PC and enter your password.

2. Press Win-X (by which I mean hold down the Windows key and then tap X).

3. In the pop-up menu that appears, click Command Prompt (Admin).

4. In the command prompt, type control userpasswords2, then press Enter. (If this sounds familiar, it's because the same command works in earlier versions of Windows.)

5. In the User Accounts dialog that appears, uncheck the box marked Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer.

6. Click OK, then confirm the automatic sign-in option by entering your password (twice).

7. Reboot.

Presto! No more password check

What are you using for imaging?

I ask because I'm going to be getting our Windows 8 image put together soon, after sys prepping does it default to the Microsoft account login?

I can't find anything in the "master list" of policies (if you're curious, it's here: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=25250)

So I don't know if there is a solution.

We use ENGL and ZENworks. ENGL handles the SYSPREP and all the custom settings, then ZENworks actually gets it on the workstation and handles the managment portion.

ENGL does SYSPREP the image automatically at the end of the installation. I can put registry key in and so some custom settings, but not sure what settings to do. I'll talk to ENGL and see if they have an answer.

Once done imaging, it ends up at the login prompt, which is set to the Microsoft Account first. I haven't tested to see if it stays on the domain login once selected or not, but I'm assuming it does.

Thanks for the Master List. In my previous searches, I can only find reference to the linking of Microsoft Account to the domain account. I don't think that alone will achieve what I want.
