Android is not HTCs problem. Its lack of support for devices soon after launch, the number of different models produced, and the design of their phones. LG and Huawei are both doing well with Android and have posted profits.. They would have the same issue if they went WP.

A reason why I'm considering moving to WP8 and a Nokia device in a few months. My HTC android phone was discontinued within months or release and got 1 android update to 4.0.3. For anyone in a contract that's a kick in the plums. It's a shame because the hardware and design of the device is solid.

Get a Nexus device for Android or at least some "reputable" Android device such as the Galaxy S line.

Unique? hah, what a joke. It's basically the same end experience with slight variations to the CPU, RAM, Camera, and case. Not to mention the fact that Microsoft limits what they can and cannot design into their handsets. You get none of that limitation with Android, hell pretty much any part of it apart from the Google Experience applications can be customised.

What were you expecting phones to have? Two screens?

Not really looking that high end. More leaning towards the 620.

I like it when the OEMs can customise the software to suit their customers. Windows Phone, like the iPhone is impossible to customise, and as much as I dislike the iPhone, at least on the iPhone you aren't stuck with IE.

+1

I have a Galaxy S from 2010 and it's still able to run the latest version of Android.

Nokia, during the 2012, closed some building, fired a lot of workers and now, they are doing it fine?.

It is hard to believe.

BTW, it is a bit easy to inflate the earning, for example, selling some buildings.

So? They sold some buildings. That doesn't mean they're folding. Nokia is doing just fine, they're on a path to recovery.

Im glad they went with Windows Phone. If they went the Android route, they would be competing with Samsung as the flagship maker. Nokia still dominates in the dumb phone market outside the U.S. For the Windows Phone route I feel Nokia was able to really bring out their designs at tie it richly with the OS. It just wouldn't work well with any other OS.

I think the folks that criticize Nokia for going exclusively with Windows Phone are upset, and maybe even a little jealous, that they're finding success with a product they wanted so desperately to fail. Or they have some investment in Google.

Elop set the company on the right path, and it'll take some time, but the boat is slowly starting to turn around.

Lots of companies have sold of their HQ's lately, and turned around. Nokia has turned around, they're selling better and better, having supply problems due to the unexpected demand and they're making money. Sony I believe sold their HQ to lease it back and is no starting to make money again. last year was the year when a lot of big companies saw that there was no benefit to owning a huge corporate building, especially when they are at the same time shrinking the management side of the business to run leaner and more effective. then there i no longer a point in owning a huge building with large empty areas when hey can just lease the part they use.

Um.. turned around? They are still losing money and the reason they are not in terrible shape is because they are still selling dumb phones that don't run Windows Phone and they are counting some of them as smartphones which is absolutely deceiving.

Nokia warned of a weaker first quarter last year and duly delivered. Sales were ?5.85bn in Q1 2013 with an operating loss of ?150m.

Net phone sales were down 32 per cent year on year, with 6.1 million smartphones shifted in the first three months of the year, of which 5.6 million were Lumia Windows phones.

In Q4 Nokia shifted only 4.4 million phones, a massive operations ****-up caused by a shortage of components, which meant it was unable to capitalise on the interest generated by Windows 8 and its clever Lumia 920 phone in the Christmas buying period. The ASP per device has risen substantially over the past year as Symbian drops out of the mix.

Nokia also counted 5 million Asha full touch Series 40 phones as "smartphones".

So saying that Nokia has turned around is a huuuuuge stretch if not downright false. They are in a bigger dump they ever were.. Windows Phone is killing them.. the old dumb-phone sales are slowing down, thus they are making some hybrid Symbian OS for their Asha phones (which ironically means HOPE) that are neither smartphones nor dumb phones.

They have very little chance of coming back in anything. Quite the contrary, they are in deep sh**.

I figured that would be a deal-breaker for both companies. I'm glad Nokia went with Windows Phone because the OS is really good

Anyway, are you trying to be a troll? There's nothing "Fisher Price" about Windows Phone.

Microsoft need Nokia far more than Nokia need Microsoft. Microsoft have almost no useful apps, probably the Nokia ones are the best of a bad bunch. Their phone IS INDEED "Fischer Price", its a phone with big numbers and letters and tiles. Its a kids phone. No one who needs a serious phone is buying Windows phones. Its market is mostly kids and teenagers.

it's very clear to us that in today's war of ecosystems, we've made a very clear decision to focus on Windows Phone with our Lumia product line," he said. "And it is with that that we will compete with competitors like Samsung and Android.

And that is their downfall. Much like he harps on about how "Nokia had completely nailed it" with their smartphone and tablet ideas many years before iphone, he still doesn't get it. Their smart phones were rubbish. They were slow, unfriendly, clunky and HAD NO APPS.

His shareholders are right. If he wants to pull Nokia out of its slump, they need to jump on the android bandwagon and FAST.

Asha touch phones ARE smart phones. they're not as powerful as their WP handsets now. BUT if we're going to go by that logic, then Android is suddenly selling about 90% less "smartphones" than they currently do, so...

and profits, instead of well losing money, is kind of turning around. but I know you hate to hear good news about anything that's not google and will ignore it as if it doesn't exist while if you hear bad news about google it's suddenly somehow good news so... not going to bother to argue this with you, it's pointless as you don't contribute intelligently to these discussions.

Why ? how would that help them make more money ?

As any phone user out there what is important to them, you'll find that the majority of them don't care about apps at all. and all the apps they need are on WP anyway.

Why ? how would that help them make more money ?

How would that help them make more money? Are you kidding me?

First of all, people are used to Android.. it's the standard for mobile OSs now and pretty much most people use it.. so it's familiar and tons of people now have Android phones, Android apps AND Android tablets.

Second, people have bought tons of apps and games and all kinds of things on Android and Nokia going Android would immediately give their users an amazing eco-system instead of a joke of an ecosystem Windows Phone has where Microsoft needs to beg companies to develop for. Hell they could even open their own app store to rival Google Play and developers who already built apps for Google Play could just publish them on Nokia's app store. So the app store could also be making them money and not Microsoft.

They could take the Android and integrate all their services instead of Google's by giving them a free OS that's been constantly developed off their own R&D really, and they could promote their own services on it.

In other words, it would SAVE them money, it would bring them gazillions of users (I sure would get Nokia phone like Lumia if it ran Android as Nokia makes overall great hardware) and they would be most likely at the top of the Android chain, quite possibly outdoing Samsung.

Right now, they are going nowhere but the Blackberry route and Microsoft has them by the balls thanks to their trojan horse Elop.

We all know that Microsoft would be fu**ed if Nokia dumped Windows Phone and went Android as the whole Windows Phone OS would be history since really nobody uses it as much as Nokia does. Any marketshare Windows Phone has (a joke as well) is thanks to Nokia. So Microsoft would rather see Nokia burn at this point than allow them to switch to Android. That's why they put Elop there.. to make sure that doesn't happen no matter how bad Microsoft is for Nokia.

I'm sure they put something in contracts too so Nokia is pretty much screwed.

When any money you might be making (even though you are in the red) is from a dumb phone that doesn't even run Windows Phone, I think even to the dumbest people it would become quickly obvious that there's something wrong with that someone running the company and the overall direction.

The bottom line is this.. Android gives them complete independence, Windows Phone is pushing them into complete dependence on Microsoft and eventually Microsoft will dominate what Nokia can and can't do. To any semi-informed person this is painfully obvious.

Apps are what people use their phone for. Just because Windows phone has a crap interface and no apps, is no reason to pretend that's not what people want.

Please do tell why you think people buy a phone if its not for the easy to use interface and apps?

Are you serious? Asha phones are just glorified feature phones slapped with a half-baked S40 OS along a Symbian theme. Those devices don't even feature multitasking, a fully fledged browser or even a proper App store. Those pieces of trash represent Nokia's desperate attempt to win back the low end segment now ruled over by Samsung. Nokia is just advertising those junk devices as smartphones when they clearly don't sport features that one would expect to find on even a low end crapdroid. Asha phones won't prevent Nokia's ship from sinking..

Don't need a smartphone for that, if that's all you do, why would you buy any smartphone, let alone one that has a bloated touchscreen operating system to operate/navigate before you can even make a call.
