What is up with the companies who used to get along with Microsoft?

Recommended Posts

I was just getting on neowin when I noticed ALOT of Microsoft chatter.

First they say Adobe is getting away from the DVD media of photoshop and going to the cloud(which I use BTW)

Then Yahoo wants to cut ties with Microsoft...

Then Google gives NO help to Microsoft for an App..

all on the front page as of 5-8-2013.

Either companies hate Microsoft or there is something bigger going on here. has anyone else noticed this lately?

Adobe going to the cloud has little to do with MS directly, it'd also affect they're Mac users to. They just want to mirror what MS is doing with Office and Azure with much success. Azure is what? 4 years old? It's already a billion dollar business.

The Yahoo thing is silly, there was another post before it saying they just extended their deal another year. Google not helping MS for a WP app is not a surprise either, but I bet you'll see at least one official Google app hit the WP store by the end of this year.

I was thinking so because just down the neowin front page, there's an article about extending their search revenue partnership. is Yahoo smoking something?

When has google cooperate with MS ?...

and Yahoo. They're a small shell of what they were. most of Yahoo has been piece off and sold. what's left is the Anti MS part that's always been there with the same leadership that doomed the company by refusing the MS buyout.

Google played nice with MS with the development of Chrome browser for windows... seems like a lot of backlash.

But Google was never really in competition with Microsoft on the desktop. Microsoft had the OS and Google was offering something that sat on top of the OS. In the mobile market though Google have their own OS and apps. I would imagine that they decided that helping to create an app on a competing OS wouldn't be the best move.

You know that companies are not kids in a playground? They work together on some projects and are competitors on others. "Hate"? Really? Do you know how business works?

I think it's down to companies realizing they no longer need to totally rely on MS for their support. As more people start to use other OS's, such as Android, iOS or Mac OS X, there is more competition.

Look at Adobe for example, they have Photoshop Touch available on both major mobile OS's along with Adobe Lightroom soon to be coming to the iPad; no doubt sometime in the future, it will also be coming along to Android just like Photoshop Touch did. Give it time, more and more Adobe CC (CS) products will be available outside of Windows and OS X. How long until Adobe releases Premiere on the iOS platform to compete with iMovie? Time will tell.

The Youtube app I can understand in some fashion. Why would you want to help your competition gain ground on a VERY popular app? Anti-competitive? Maybe, but Google is not obliged to create an app. Personally I think they were silly for not. Think about it, wouldn't they want to support an app JUST for the ad revenue for the ads inside the videos? Ads are THE main revenue for Google.

Over the years I've read numerous articles from companies that ended up suing Microsoft. The stories all seemed to have a general theme to them.

- Microsoft would invite their new little friends to the giant Redmond kingdom to discuss their software/hardware and show them all the ends and outs. These companies were usually so excited to visit the glorious land of Microsoft. Microsoft would then tell these companies, THANKS, AND WE"LL GET BACK TO YOU. Then a year later Microsoft would have miraculously integrated the design into their OS. This then resulted in numerous companies over the years suing Microsoft over patent infringement. Still more profitable for Microsoft to get sued and pay off these companies they stole their designs from then have gone into a partnership with them.

I think it goes along with the 'we don't need MS apps' the simple mobile crowd keep chanting and biased app devs that have popped up in their stead. There are lots of long time partners, like Intuit, that are happily backstabbing their old alliances.

Do they google in your country? MS has been sued hundred of times over patent infringement by private companies as well as the UK and US governments.

MS hasnt been playing nice either.

Exactly this. And I think that's probably where it's coming from. Companies are starting to think for themselves and do their own thing.

Hello,

For what it is worth, Adobe, Google, Microsoft, Yahoo, et al, do cooperate on a lot of security issues, especially when multiple vendors are involved.

And they are also now competing more against each other. Look at Adobe vs. Microsoft, for example - while Flash may have Silverlight in a headlock, now Acrobat has Word in its face. In terms of search (and ads delivered via search) it's Google vs. Microsoft vs. Yahoo; also, Microsoft hasn't exactly dried up and faded away in terms of mobile (Google's other big business); Android, in terms of all its formfactors, has Microsoft to deal with. Google can't dismiss Windows Phone or ModernUI, and it certainly can't dismiss Bing (or Microsoft Advertising, for that matter), regardless of what Yahoo does in terms of that partnership. Adobe certainly can't dismiss Word (which is already threatening to make Pagemaker irrelevant, in addition to being a serious threat to Acrobat) - what if Google wins the mobile battle with Android, but loses the skirmishes against Bing and Microsoft Advertising? Android tablets and smartphones with Google's Chrome browser, but with Bing and Microsoft Advertising at the core of search is both possible and plausible - now. The same applies even to Chromebooks. Not war, but straight business.

Microsoft being nibbled to death is now less and less likely.
