A California teen discovered the magnets in iPad 2 tablets and covers are capable of interfering with cardiac rhythm devices, like pacemakers, according to the Heart Rhythm Society.

Ah, Fox News misses out an important details again - the problem is caused by many small magnets that hold Smart Cover in place, not the iPad or any other tablet tech as such. Deactivation, either temporary or requiring manual reactivation, with an external magnet is a safety measure of these cardiac devices.
