Illegal to drive slow in the fast lane ?

This should be the law in the UK too - that and driving in the middle lane.

In the UK it's illegal to undertake, so it's bloody annoying when you have somebody sitting at 55-60mph in the middle lane, with no traffic on the inside lane. People in this country seem to think they can't use the inside lane :s.

I've always been a believer that being undertaken should be illegal - since if there is room for somebody to undertake you, you're in the wrong bloody lane!

In Ohio at least it is illegal to drive 15 or more miles under the speed limit in any lane. It is called Impeding the flow of traffic.

Here in West Virginia it's also illegal to be driving 15 mph or more below the speed. It's also illegal to "drive" in the left lane. You're supposed to drive in the left lane only if you pass other cars on the right as long you don't exceed the speed limit.

You can be pulled over in Canada for driving too slowly on a highway as it is likely to present a danger to other drivers who aren't expecting it.

My wife's grandma got pulled over for doing 50km/h in a 90 in heavy rain, and she wasn't even in the fast lane. This was in Ontario. She didn't get a ticket or anything - just told to hurry up. Others from Ontario will know that a 90 zone is really closer to 100-105

So, what if the road is at a stand still? Could everyone then be fined for driving more than 10mph under the limit?

I've lived in Florida my whole life and it's been a wonder to me why this has never been addressed. So many elderly just slow pokin' around everywhere.

I hate slow drivers in the left lane, or people who hog left lanes on highways. So annoying, just use it to pass! I think I follow the rules very well, but some people just don't have lane discipline. But I think the single most gear grinding thing people do is when they cut you off and drive really slow. If you are going to cut me off, speed up or do NOT cut me off.

It's not a 'fast lane'. It's a passing lane.

In many states, it's illegal to be in the passing lane while not overtaking another vehicle or coming up on a left exit. "Failure to keep right" is a 2pt ticket where I'm from.

I wish that were the case here in PA... NY and NJ drivers for whatever reason insist on driving everywhere in the left lane... When they actually DO get over to let you pass, they get right back in the left lane! It's infuriating. I guess the left lane isn't used for passing where they're from...

And it is incredibly ignorant.

Depends on the state. We don't have minimum speeds posted here, just single speed limit signs.

They may not be posted, but most states have a minimum set (Which is usually a set number of miles under the maximum)...

from someone who drives the turnpike here in south florida quite a bit, this is great news. the only problem is, it's not people going 10 under that stop up the road, it's people going exactly the speed limit. It's awful when you get 2 people, one in each lane, going exactly 70 mph, and getting the cars stacked up behind them. it's scary when people go nuts behind them, trying to change lanes, trying to pass, when there's 10 cars almost bumper to bumper behind them!

10 mph under is kind of pointless, the danger is when people in the left won't move over at all, no matter the speed

Ding ding ding, we have a winner here! I live in Pensacola, there are plenty (read: too many LOL) of um, elderly drivers who are notorious for getting on I-10 (east/west) and putt-putting in the left lane. Minimum speed limit is 45 MPH in the parts that are 70-75 MPH speed limit. I've literally seen 30 MPH drivers... The part of I-10 that cuts through our area, you will get rumped/ran the hell over if you are not doing the speed limit or at least +5 over it. Same for most of the highways in the area. I won't hesitate to do 50 on the 45 highways -- if I don't I end up slowing everyone else down and disrupting the flow of traffic (my excuse if I ever get popped for speeding, thankfully zero speeding tickets *ever*).

I've been to Central/South FL plenty of times in my life, ugh, even more retired/elderly people driving, it's utter chaos sometimes!
