dal2013
Been looking for an ultrabook for a while but still unsure which is the best one for me... Any help would be greatly appreciated. Important: - long battery life - at least i5 processor, ideally i-7 - Ideally 8gb of ram but 4gb is fine as long as I can upgrade - Windows 8 - SSD - Used for work so web design and development - Light as possible as I'd like it portable - I think 13 inch screen would be ideal Budget - ?600-900 so cheap as possible really but I'd ideally want the best one available for me at the moment. Is there any new ultrabooks on the horizon which I should maybe wait for? Ive been looking to ones on ebay such as the samsung series 9 and the asus zenbook which look nice. lnmnky
Just to chip in, would you really need the i7 for web development? I'm running Visual studio 2012 on a Intel Centrino from 2008 with 2GB ram and it's working perfectly with Windows 8. The Zen will also take you up close to your top end also, and you might only get a 1300 * 720 screen in that price bracket. So it's not going to great coding away on a HD ready 13inch screen. http://www.ebuyer.com/411103-asus-ux32a-laptop-ux32a-r3007h The machine you've listed above looks more suited for laptop gaming than development. :D
dal2013
i-5 would be fine, I am one of those people who always wants the best spec though, I know my budget doesn't really allow that but I'm always looking to upgrade my machines, get everything lightning speed and run flawlessly... just a thing of mine where I need everything to be modern, look great and work amazing. Going on from what you have said, what machines would you recommend? Thanks

Xerxes
I second the ZenBook lunamonkey suggested and even the lower spec VivoBook is pretty good too! (I have one of those ones). I've also heard from friends the Samsung Series laptops are fantastic too, you can't go wrong with any of them I think (Y)
goretsky Supervisor Posted May 14, 2013 Supervisor Share Posted May 14, 2013 Hello, Have you considered a Lenovo ThinkPad X1c? That might be a little over your budget, though (not sure what the UK cost is versus here in the US). Regards, Aryeh Goretsky

I like the zenbook but the keyboard after a while really stinks. It's too shallow, feels like typing on a desk with your fingers.
