Is United States a paradise for young people, a battlefield for the middle-aged and a hell for the aged?

1) No.
2) Not really.
3) Not really.

It's a pretty crappy Country but it's still better to live there than many other places.

By the way you said America in the post title and United States in the post, these things are not the same thing.

Seeing that, as is the case in many Western democracies, the current oldies will be the last generation to enjoy a full pension, the middle-aged live with the very real fear of being laid off at any moment, and the young struggle to even get a foot in the door, I disagree.

well, i'd say it's paradise for young people simply b/c they do not know better. life is good when innocent and/or ignorant, right?

this country is a mess, but it's covered up with a facade of propaganda, media backing and insane, incomprehensible amounts of debt. The only reason this country enjoys its current way of life and has no imploded is through continual, perpetual money creation. There's a reason that Obama has allowed the Fed to create over $8T in new debt since 2008. it's the only way to maintain the country.

Life is what you make of it wherever you go.

Only if you ignore every external factor in one's life. Those born to non-white families have a fraction of the inherited wealth, a lower quality education, fewer job opportunities, poor access to healthcare and face discrimination on a daily basis. It's possible to overcome those hurdles but it's dramatically harder to do so. So it would be better to say: life is what you make of it given the opportunities available to you.

Life is hard for everyone these days. It's takes bull headed stubbornness and hard work to get ahead no matter who you are. It can be done if you are willing to work instead of waiting for life to hand you a silver platter.

But if everyone were to get ahead then no-one would be left behind, making it impossible for everyone to succeed.

Some people need to work harder than others to see the same returns.
