A prostitution sting in Florida busted a whopping 92 people over a period of four days, Orlando authorities say.

The sting was set up at a local hotel and ultimately captured 39 prostitutes and 12 pimps; among those arrested were a youth minister and a man who was in Florida for his honeymoon.

21-year old Mohammed Ahmed was a newlywed who was apparently trying to arrange for a prostitute to come and service him along with his wife; unfortunately for him, he wound up involved in the massive undercover operation.

Authorities say that prostitution busts are often connected to other crimes and that solicitation is just as illegal when it?s done online, as it mostly was in this case.

?The negative social costs of prostitution hurt families, children, and communities, including the spreading of infectious diseases,? said Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd. ?The nexus between prostitution and other crime, such as illegal drugs, violence against women, and human trafficking, is a real problem.?

No word yet on whether the newlywed?s bride had prior knowledge of his plans or not.

I really don't see the problem with prostitution as long as the girls are not forced into it.

Some say it helps to keep rape down too.

In Belgium it is actually legal.

it's legal if you give it away or video tape it to sell, but if you charge for it, it's illegal

Who said anything about video taping?

We are just talking about the oldest profession in the world, prostitution, sex in return for money.

Really don't understand why you bring in video taping??? Please explain :)

In that case, millions of wives in the USA should be locked up. :shifty:

Can someone explain to me how prostitution can be illegal, yet the porn industry is perfectly legal?

Prostitution is legal in NZ.

^ Prostitution is supposed to lead to a lot of other crimes, including Murder.

The governments also have a hard time collecting taxes.

In truth it is 'illegal' because of past religious beliefs.

Prostitution is legal in NZ.

Simple. They're videotaping it, hence it's a movie and for entertainment.

It's a loophole in the law lol. A similar example of a loophole would be how Hooters (a restaurant) can get away with hiring female employees only, they're classified as an entertainment venue that serves food instead of a restaurant.

we all do make bad choices in judgement. As a rule in most churches, he should be removed from his position at church. But he could hold another position for a time after the church finds he has repent himself.

I have no problem with prostitution, tho I'd would never be with one. As long as they are certified clean, really see no issue.

I am fairly sure you can just hire a prostitute but instead of giving him/her cash, buy stuff for that person yourself.

Sometimes it is called dating.

Prostitution is legal in NZ.

I'll try. Imho, the relationships are entirely different.

In porn industry, the subjects are actors who signed a contract with a studio which pays taxes on its revenue. The act isn't illegal as long as the subjects are adults and consent to both the performance and to being filmed.

When it comes to prostitution, essentially, one party "sells" her/his body. This alone is a shady area in modern jurisprudence with its human rights protection clauses.

For example, Articles 4 and 5 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights say:

No one shall be held in slavery or servitude; slavery and the slave trade shall be prohibited in all their forms.

No one shall be subjected to torture or to cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment

Of course, it's possible to argue that a prostitute doesn't sell her body, but consents to "lend" it or sells services.

However, organized prostitution is de facto slave trade, albeit temporary. That's why the countries which allow prostitution are still very strict when it comes to brothels and pimps. They have to make sure that the women themselves are the ones making the decision, that they are not being exploited.

Additionally, there are all sorts of other problems including health concerns and taxes since it's a business deal.

The countries where it's allowed have enacted laws which regulate everything and everyone knows the rules of the game.

In other countries, there are loopholes which allows escort services to flourish.

---

My personal opinion is that it's pointless to prohibit prostitution. As the saying goes, where there's a will, there's a way.

There will always be women who would rather let someone use their body and get paid than do actual physical or intellectual work. And there will always be men with money would pay for it.
