Just over a year since the last major redesign to Google+, Senior Vice President Vic Gundotra has revealed at I/O 2013 that the search company is completely reworking the layout of its social network. It will be available later today. The new design bears resemblance to the rather attractive layout Google+ adopted for its iPad and Android tablet apps last June: a three column-wide grid of cards replaces the long list of posts, photos, and comments that currently makes up the Google+ Stream, and high-resolution photos and videos take up the full screen width. There will also be an option to switch to a one-column view. By exposing visitors to more visual content at once, Google is likely hoping that users will find something that intrigues them quicker.

The redesign doesn't just feature a new layout for your Google+ stream ? the company has also worked to turn the website into more of a proper app instead of a website. The redesign includes some very nifty animations that should serve to make using the social network a bit more fun. For example, clicking on a card flips it over to reveal comments. When you want to write a new post, clicking a button on the top right flies a window onto your screen to let you compose.

I guess mine has updated yet. It still looks liike the old way. That looks great, however. Can't wait to get it.

With this update and the new Play API to use your circles for leaderboards and multiplayer.. great reason to start really using it for me :D

Auto enhancing photos... Groan... Knowing how badly pro and pro amateur apps can do that, I see nothing good coming from that other than over exposed over brightened crap.

Whoa, this update actually looks good...!

Messed around with my account for a few minutes and I definitely like the changes. I might actually use this...we'll see though.

Really love the use of CSS 3D transforms! Some nifty javascript being used here! Very fluid and animated for a web app! I find google+ to be more of like a more featured version of twitter with better people to follow from developers, communities etc.

I really like that Google+ takes advantage of high resolution displays - at 2560x1600 it looks much better than Facebook. It's just a shame that nobody I know uses it much, myself included.

Saw the new design this morning. It really looks great and the new stuff they added are great.

I would be happy to use it if/when i will actually have my friends use it as well.

Thank god! The previous layout looked so cramped with the frame edges, as if I was stuck in some sort of Geocities atrocity.

Now, if only I knew people that used it or, for that matter, had any use for it.
