I just finished fixing the hardware on a friends laptop. I would like to set up something so that I can access the laptop whenever he needs me. Other than Windows assistance, is anything I can install to make it very easy and free?

RealVNC?

If he is at home, that will mess up the server. For instance, he will have a local IP address, and if I am at home, there will be a problem.

Is there a silent, automatic process?

http://www.teamviewe...m/en/index.aspx is what your after. Doesn't need to be even installed, he can just run it and read off a couple of numbers to you when he needs you to connect.

Or it can be installed as service and you can connect whenever you want, etc.
