Hot debate - Has the reign of football shifted to Germany?

Recommended Posts

Its everywhere - 'Germany is the new king of football' with two German teams Dortmund and Munich defeating Real Madrid and Barcelona, the kings of club football. Do you really agree with the statement or do you think that Spain is still the king of football? I think that Spain is still the king of football. Perhaps we can only decide after seeing atleast 3-4 leagues in the future. What do you say?

With the way they played against the U.S I highly doubt it. Goal keeper scoring an own goal? If that is the quality of players they have in Germany then I don't think so.

To be fair, the team playing against the US yesterday wasn't even the B class team; it was the C class without the players from the two frontrunning league teams - Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich.

On-topic: There is a two-class society in the Bundesliga, On one hand you have the two Champions League finalists, on the other hand the 16 other clubs. Dortmund and M?nchen will likely continue to play a major role in European club football. It's unlikely for any of the other clubs to have much of a chance in the Champions League or Europa League however.

Nothing big to deliberate here, Spain is out of the throne, Germany got a crown. In next year everything will change, or not...

Yes, the Premier League and English football is so overhyped and we're all let down every time a Euro or World Cup comes around. Although English teams have done pretty well in Europe the cracks are now showing, what with the top teams relying mainly on foreigners to win trophies, the teams that can't afford top European footballers hardly ever get a look in.

The PL has been a shambles for years with the top 4 or 5 places reserved to the same 4 or 5 clubs, but then again it could be worse, it could be like the Rangers/Celtic domination of the SPL! It's not far off it!

Percentage of domestic players in European leagues (2012-13)

Spain: 61%

France: 60%

Germany: 47%

Italy: 46%

England: 36%

This sort of thing needs to change too. I wish the FA or Premier League would impose a rule that there needs to be 51% home grown talent in PL and Football League clubs.
