Atari looking to sell off all of its assets in July
by John Callaham

Atari filled for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in January but it appears the game publisher's attempts to get someone to buy the entire company in one shot have failed. Now The Wall Street Journal reports that Atari will offer its various assets, including the Atari brand name itself, in a series of separate auctions in July.

The report says that Atari is looking to raise a total of at least $22.2 million in their various auctions, each with a separate lot of game assets. If the auctions are approved by the courts, Atari will start the minimal bid for the company's well known brand name at $15 million.

The rights to Atari's various game franchises will also go on the auction block. They include the Test Drive racing franchise with a minimal bid of $1.5 million, while the RollerCoaster Tycoon rights will have a $3.5 million bid. The classic RTS series Total Annihilation is also among the IP up for sale. Its price starts at "just' $250,000.

Atari's process sounds like it will be similar to what happened to THQ earlier this year. That now defunct publisher sold off its various assets in chunks to a variety of game developers and publishers.

Rather sad.

I fear that this will eventually happen to SEGA, in time.

Sega should re-release the Genesis with improved graphics, and one ROM containing all their popular games. I think it would be popular (if it's low cost). And it should be Linux based allowing open development/internet connectivity.

it could be a good move for Apple to buy at least the name, but I don't think they will...

Here's hoping for someone to take Rollercoaster Tycoon and bring out a new game.

Just the other day I was thinking of Total Ann and thinking someone should remake it since it cannot run on modern computers. Still my all time favorite game.

Atari has been dead a long time ago.

What we call Atari today is pretty much Infogrames rebranded. The title should probably be Infogrames is looking to sell all its assets including the right of the Atari name ;).

They should do this..

Partner with Sega and make the,

And it will ONLY DO ONE THING:

Play Video Games:

New Games: Sonic Adventure 3, Shenmue 3, Panzer Dragoon, Daytona USA, ect

FREE ONLINE PLAY

DOWNLOAD OLD POPULAR TITLES

And not just emulator, but upscaled with anti-analyzing, auto saving, ect

Just TRY it.. instead of going down in flames.. give it a shot!

Anti-analyzing? Does that make the system immune to analysts?

Nothing wrong about any cd based console Sega has released.. They may have not been as successful as others.. but still did pretty good.. I think with their two assets.. maybe even team up with Nintendo and just make one AWESOME GAMING console.

The real Atari went under in 1996, this is just Infogrames leeching off their name.
