Just saw this and checked it out because sitting at my PC and doing Rosetta Stone has been boring - I heard good things about this one on iOS so here I am.

Learn Spanish, French, German, Portuguese, Italian, and English. Totally fun. Totally free.

"Far and away the best free language-learning app." ?The Wall Street Journal

"We?ve also tried a few other methods such as book learning and Rosetta Stone, both of which bombed. That?s why I jumped at the chance to try Duolingo. And believe me, it?s addictive." ?FluentIn3Months.com

Duolingo is changing the way people learn languages.

- It's free, for real. No fees, no ads, no gimmicks. A college-quality education without the price tag.

- It's fun. Lose hearts for answering incorrectly, advance by completing bite-sized lessons, and track your progress with shiny achievements.

- It's constantly improving. We bust out the lab coats regularly and measure how well you are learning on Duolingo. Your learning experience only gets better over time.

So far I gotta say pretty good. gave it 4/5 stars.

Took away 1 star because it requires an account - shouldn't need that but it's fine. I used my G+ account to sign in (can use email/Facebook or just create an account).

Also turning off audio doesn't seem to work - I was at work when I was testing it and it started talking away. LOL I checked to make sure Sound was off but still talks. Guess I can't really knock it for that because it does require you to listen to spoken language then TYPE it out as you heard it. - For that alone I give it high marks too!

If you are like me and have a need for it, then it's definitely a good option.

NOTE - No i'm not working for the company or got paid to post this... not an ad either! I just happen to have a German gf and her parents doesn't speak English so well so i've been using Rosetta Stone at home, knew there were Smartphone apps but never got around to trying any till today. Babbel was the others but i like this one better.

I just installed it and started having too much fun learning. It's going to be great for my German, though. Danke! (Y)

Doing German too and completed then first 2 basic levels. I'm already past those because of Rosetta Stone but having fun with it so far. Used it on my laptop too since it syncs progress (+ for that then, guess I can't knock it for requiring an account! :) )and did the speaking ones for proper pronunciations and doing good so far :)

Gotta say its very well done and similar to Rosetta Stone in some ways too which I thought were well done.

I too am currently using Rosetta Stone, however I'm learning Spanish.

Thanks very much for the heads up on this! Great app, and FREE! (Y)

If only they did Russian or SC! Oh well I guess I'm going to have to partially rely on RS still :(
