WP8 and receiving e-mails as texts...

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone. I just noticed something that is a bit weird (And annoying) and wasn't present in WP7, so I wanted to ask if anyone else has seen this, and if anyone knows of a workaround...

Basically, I get a lot of e-mails sent to my number (number@vtext.com) and on WP7 this would come in showing it as being from the e-mail address that sent it. This was nice as I was able to easily just respond there.

With WP8 I am seeing that e-mails sent to number@vtext.com are arriving to my phone as coming from 6245 (MAIL) with the e-mail address that sent it as the first line of the text... This is a problem for a couple of reasons, not least of which is the fact that now the "FROM" is taking up valuable text space when there is such a demanding limit...

So, I figured I would ask on here what everyone's thoughts were on this. This certainly doesn't seem like the way it *should* work, so I'm considering it a bug at this point...

It looks like Vtext.com is a website for sending texts to Verizon Wireless subscribers. Maybe there's a bug or design flaw with WP7 that turned those kinds of messages into emails.

the email client is merely getting the "from" and "reply to" info from the email headers. also, email clients don't modify your emails,so the email address in the first line of text in the body of the message should sort of confirm that this is a change on the providers end,and nothing to do with the email client.

you can test this by plugging in the email credentials in a different email client and checking if the emails come through the exact same way or not.
