Here is amazing rare color footage of New York City from 1939! Its truly amazing watching everyone going about their buisness and seeing all the old cars, old clothing, signs, prices.

They had color in 1939?

I believe it's been rebuilt by a computer analysing the shades of grey (all 50 of them) and matching them against the colours that produce that shade.

A lot of war film is recreated that way. Pretty cool stuff :)

They had color back in 1939 but it was extremely expensive.

The Wizard of Oz was also released in 1939, as you can recall that used some color film.

I never could stand either film, which is neither here nor there.
