It only took a year but I'm back to Xbox360

Recommended Posts

A year ago I was persuaded to ditch my Xbox360 (60GB White one) and go all Sony PS3. From the start it wasn't a happy switch, but I persevered due to the people at work trying to convince me. Me and the daughters had gotten a little bored of the consoles so I assumed this would bring a much needed injection of interest. We endured its many failings but no more.

We sold our PS3 and accoutrements and purchased what I thought was a second hand 360 bundle. Turns out it's brand new, one of the 'slim' 250GB doodads. Sweet. Anywho we set it back up with our profiles, amazingly they were still intact, points-avatar-achievements-etc. Nice.

OK the Xbox isn't perfect by any stretch but these are a few of the reasons we switched back (not an exhaustive list but the main reasons are there)

01. They wouldn't let me have tuckeratlarge as my username.

02. They wouldn't let daughter 2 have her username either (not divulged for her privacy)

03. The graphics are far worse than the 360, especially in dual screen, glitches and poorer textures, jaggies and appalling shadows in racing games.

04. Only one person signed in at a time - if we played COD Black ops, I have to be a guest.

05. Singstar - no getting rid of that.

06. Didn't like the front end interface.

07. Couldn't play my own music whilst playing a game.

08. Very slow apps - Youtube, Playstation shop etc.

09. Cinavia

10. Crap Video quality.

11. Mostly immature idiots on multiplayer games.

12. Uncomfortable controller.

13. Why do most games use the shoulder buttons and not the triggers as primary fire.

The reasons it took so long to swap back...

01. Laziness

02. Needed to finish GT5

I know a lot of people worship at the Sony alter and I happily applaud their personal choice. I am just saying in my opinion (which counts for nought I know) Xbox 360 is for us. Not necessarily better or worse just our preference.

I experience this more on MP on my 360. Every 13 year old American teenager has a 360 and it shows in MP.

Because Sony in their infinite wisdom didn't give the controllers 'triggers' . They are convex, hideous pieces of crap. The developers realised this and use the shoulder buttons instead.

They are awful, awful, awful. You can get these ?0.99 plastic stick on things to make them into triggers, but even they are awful as well.

And what's worse, is Sony still haven't put triggers on the PS4 controller. They're not as convex, but they're still not triggers.

Such a small thing makes such a massive negative impact on game playing.

Was the PS3 your first ever Sony console? Why would you then assume that the next iteration would have triggers?

Because having triggers would then make those buttons actually usable. If developers were remapping the functions naturally destined for trigger buttons to the top shoulder ones it effectively makes those buttons redundant. Why bother having buttons on a controller which are barely going to get used?

Even the L2/R2 buttons on the PS2 controller were better and more comfortable to use.

There was a fairly large backlash to the PS3 controllers 'triggers' and huge sales of those tacky stick on triggers I would have assumed that, especially with the PS4 being 'by gamers for gamers' they would have listened and put proper ones on the PS4. From what i've seen of the new controller it seems to be the only thing missing, otherwise actually looks really good.

Stopped at worse video quality. Such a joke.

It is actually true, just not true for all games. They're practically the same machine in capabilities except when someone spends a hell of a lot more time optimizing for PS3 but you can find worse graphics on either console if you pick the right games.

Personally I ditched my 360 for PC gaming and I'm not going back til the X1/PS4 (plan to get both this go, X1 first.) I miss Kinect though. I'm sure I'll eventually sell them off too, but it depends if PC gaming pulls itself out of its rut.

I think you're misunderstanding the OP as he listed graphics separately, so it'd be logical to assume that he's talking about actual videos/movies.

Also his statement that graphics are 'far worse' on the PS3 is a huge exaggeration, while they can be worse than the X360 at times the differences are generally fairly minimal.

At the end of the day you have to go with what you enjoy most, I honestly keep both around because of the exclusives that they offer but to each his own.

Look trigger like to me, maybe not as extreme as Xbox triggers but they are there.

mute them. it's so easy. when I'm playing any game I have no time to go in a ****ing match with anyone unless I'm up for talking trash. which I rarely do anyway.

I'm sure you can mute them in a MP match on a PS3 too, (I don't play much MP anymore) so I don't understand why it would be a problem with one platform but not on another.

I think this may be up to the developer. Pretty sure LBP and Starhawk allowed the other player to be one of the other accounts on the console.

Can you please tell me where you purchase something as used and when you receive it, it's brand new? Because I am looking to purchase a new slim xbox360 and I would love a deal like this that you found :)

I just bought another Xbox 360 (my 5th now!) but this time I went for the Slim unit. 250gb one.

And what I've done is bought it second hand / used at CEX (UK). I paid ?140 and got one controller, the Xbox, the power unit and an HDMI cable. It's the matte one (which I wanted), and it looks brand spanking new ... not a mark on it. However, the reason I went to CEX is so I could have the 12 month warranty.

I've gone out and bought Halo, Halo 2, Conker Live and Reloaded (all for Xbox but work on 360), Halo 3, Halo 3: ODST, Halo Reach, Halo 4, Modern Warfare 3, Duke Nukem Forever, Homefront, Tom Clancy Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter, Gears of War and Gears of War 2. Very happy with this one. I'm buying another PS3 next month too :) Getting back into games is fun after a good two year break from them.

I'd like to point out that a few ... sorry, ALL of your reasons are completely stupid ... PS3 graphics aren't bad, they're excellent... it's per developer anyway ... and 99.9% of games for both systems look the same (I had both consoles at the same time for a long time), the PSN is full of no more and no less morons... XBLive has just as many idiots. Video quality is bad? What? lol ... stupid reason... as it's clearly not bad.

Dude, you clearly got rid of your PS3 because you're a fan boy ... otherwise you'd have listen genuinely good reasons. Singstar?! That's a REASON?! No ... it's not. Don't like it? Don't buy it. I don't understand why you even rattled off such a dumb list, but anyways, you're obviously happier with your Xbox so that's fine.

Uh ... no it doesn't. The PS3 and Xbox pads are just as good as each other. Anyone who has problems using a PS3 pad for any reason must have severely demented hands ;) It was widely regarded as the best pad in the world for a long time and still is by many people. I personally like both Xbox 360 and PS3 pads as much as each other. But then, I'm normal.

Who would actually be crazy enough to name a controller that can't get its left analog stick in the right position as the 'best in the world'?

It was at Game. I asked the bloke for a second hand slim, i thought it would be cheaper. He sold me a bundle, turns out I bought a new one. It was my mistake for not checking.

GOOD ON YA OP!!

Either was it was a funny reply.

@Spirit Dave - didn't say they were good/bad/valid/sensible reasons. They are my reasons and because of those personal reasons I chose to re-unite with the Xbox. Not a fanboy, just out of the two it's the lesser of two evils.

Because every serious gamer purchases the add-ons to FIX the issue!
