Should I have my lens serviced?

I've got a canon 6D mainly for work with a 100mm macro lens. I also want to use it for general photography. At first I thought I'd need to fork out for another lens which would have been a bit much cost wise immediately. However my dad has an old canon 650 with a 35-105mm lens he bought in 1987ish. It hasn't been used for a while but it's been stored in the camera bag and is in good condition physically. The lens fits my my camera and works.

The only question I had was as the lens is so old, would I need to get the lens serviced or anything or am I just good to go?

If there is no fungus growing, the mechanical parts seem ok, then no. But are you 100% sure it's compatible with the 6d?

Thanks Draconian Guppy. That will likely save me good few pounds!

It's an EF lens for a 35mm camera. The 6D is a full frame camera using the EF mount. I've taken photos with it and it seems to work ok. I would have thought an error message would have come up if there was an issue.

Check that it still correctly focus. other than that usually the difference between digital and analog camera lenses is that the newer "digital lenses" have a new different coating.

Take some pictures and see if you find any odd spots in the photos... if you see them, then you can clean it out if you know how or have it cleaned by a camera techician.
