How do you set a custom ringtone without using iTunes and without jailbreak

Hello

A friend of my asked me how to set a custom ringtone from a app he downloaded that downloads MP3s. I looked around and did not find any file browser and/or anyway to select audio files to use as ringtones.

Ive read about doing it but it requires iTunes and no, jailbreaking is not a option he wants to consider.

Is there any way to do it?

AFAIK no. Sorry! Getting the ringtone converted through iTunes is your only official method.

Convert to .m4a, rename to .m4r, and then email it to the iPhone. I think of it is attached to an email (or downloaded off of a website) it can be used as a ringtone.

There is an app called "Ringer" that lets you do it.
