8GB Wii U Basic Nixed?

Recommended Posts

A reliable retail source tells us that some GameStop chains will no longer be selling the 8GB Wii U as of June 18, exactly one week after Nintendo's big E3 kick-off event.

Our source says GameStop has contacted stores with the following message:

Nintendo Wii U Basic Recall - Two Week Preparation On Tuesday, 6/18, all stories will need to return all new/unopened Wii U Basic (020359). .. Stores that have 10 or more in stock will receive shipping cartons from the [distribution center]. .. All other stores will need to save shipping cartons for this recall.

Not sure what to think about this, as I'm not sure what Nintendo's next move is with their console to get it back into the spotlight when the two behemoths launch their next generation consoles this holiday season. Hopefully, they do something bold.

Thoughts?

Scrap the basic and drop the price on the Deluxe version to $300. Becomes a bit more enticing when you have some decent space (well more than 8GB) and there's a game thrown in from the get go.

Personally, I think the Wii U is the nail in Nintendo's coffin. They still make money from the DS, and the Wii, I got my daughter a Wii U, and it has sat where I hooked it up and has been turned on maybe twice. She still burns up her Wii. Me? I am not a fan of all the motion controls to begin with, but I see Nintendo dipping further after the PS4 and the XB1 get released. I hate saying that, as I grew up with Nintendo, but somehow they have gotten off the path somewhere.

Eh, it'd be no big loss if that model did disappear. I've always viewed the 8GB model of the wii u like the 4GB model of the 360. The model that only exists for those who don't know any better.

I wish people would wake up and realize that no matter how the wii u does(and if it would fail), it will not be the downfall of nintendo. They still has plenty of money in the bank to continue on with.
