DaDude
I live in NYC, but I was never the kind of person that took time to really experience NYC to its fullest. I just go to a few places here and there, but I never really took the time to explore the city. I'm probably missing out on so much because of this. So, I decided that since it's now summer, I'm going to take time every weekend to explore one area once a week, assuming weather permits. I plan to do this every weekend until summer ends. I want this summer to be an exciting and adventurous one for me. So, can you name some great places in NYC where I can go during this summer? Keep in mind that I'm single and alone. So, I plan to take these trips by myself. I'm not doing this to have a romantic adventure with a significant other. I'm doing this for myself and so I can finally have some fun this summer. I've been to South Street Seaport and Brooklyn Bridge as I've worked around that area for three years. So, that's out. I've been to Time Square a few times, but since I've only been there a few times and it's such a big area with so much, then I'm sure there's a lot of stuff I missed. So, Time Square is one area I can take time to explore one weekend. I've been to Union Square a few times, but like Time Square, there's still more to explore. So, I'll go there as well. Anything else? Thanks.

Growled Member Posted June 11, 2013 Member Share Posted June 11, 2013 Central Park ... after dark. :shifty: That may be more experience than he can handle. :D I've always wanted to see the Empire State Building and Niagara Falls.
Sean B. Veteran Posted June 12, 2013 Veteran Share Posted June 12, 2013 The Empire State building was amazing to see at night, one of the high points in my visit to NYC. Ellis Island was also pretty cool, a bit expensive but worth it. Madison Square Garden was a better experience than Central Park at the time, more scenery. Sean B. Veteran Posted June 12, 2013 Veteran Share Posted June 12, 2013 What's at Central Park after dark, may I ask? As with any major city, venturing out during the night by yourself isn't a good idea. That's when all the crazies come out.

Niagara Falls at night is really nice, more so from the Canadian side. However, it's quite a hike from NYC, about 6-7 hours away!

DaDude
^ Allegedly, a lot of crime. The three R's: Robbery, Rape, and muRer. Yikes, that doesn't sound good. Must be a bad neighborhood. I've walked around East Harlem countless times after dark and that's considered a bad neighborhood, but I managed to remain safe. So, Central Park must be even worse, from the way it sounds... Joe User
If you're up for something on the more quiet side, I always recommend a walk through Forest Hills Gardens. Take the E or F to 71st Ave (or LIRR to Forest Hills), and walk two blocks south. Spend a few hours wandering around an English village in the middle of NYC. Then grab a good lunch at Nicks or Cabana and finish up with some shopping on Austin St. Yeah, it's not exciting, but if you like old English style cottages and gardens, its a fun low key trip.
