It's a female, they tend to have smooth upper carapaces compared to the males.

Thats an alligator snapper. She was just a regular one.

I would not have tortured it, but killed it quickly, and fired up the grill. I love me some turtle meat.

what if this happened because the turtle tried to attack and the person got a little nervous and did this. I wouldn't pass judgement on the character of the person just yet.

If this turtle is still alive, once it gets better they need to find the person that did this and have it bite off each one of that persons fingers.
