Xbox One to only work in certain countries at launch

Can't wait till it launches and people in countries that aren't America are going to get a shock when a lot of the TV functions are either non existent or reduced functionality. Your new console is basically just a fancy HDMI switcher.

It doesn't matter if they don't advertize TV functions in those places. I am also guessing their WMC background will come handy in many places outside of USA.

MS already said in their press conference that they are working with service providers in other countries to provide content.

Whatever, you'll keep parroting your nonsense regardless of what anyone else says.

Did you conveniently miss that they said TV stuff will only work in the US at launch?

Isn't Sony doing the same with Gaikai?

They said more places will get the TV feature in 2014, now that could be January or February, or it could be in the summer for some. The fact they're limiting the release of it to specific places means they're going to get as much of the backend stuff working before it hits retail in those markets.

In any case, I plan to get one and not use it for TV passthrough, I'm fine with the games and other media aspects. If they also opening it up to 3rd party apps/games through the store like on Windows8 then even better.

This is retarded. If what's being reported is accurate, let's say someone buys an Xbox One in Spain (close to the border), and brings it home in Portugal. They can plug it in, but they can't play ****, because Xbox live will not be able to set them up.

Same goes for any of the "unsupported" countries in EUrope that are really close to other "supported" countries anyway.

They keep shooting themselves on the foot.

Sony aren't basing the concept of their console around Gaikai. Microsoft's whole vision is that it is the only device you'll need, all the TV stuff is central to that it is one of the first things they showed off when they announced the damn thing in May, unless you live outside of the US that is.

They didn't say TV is central to Microsoft's vision. It is Xbox that is central to everything. Games, TV, Movies, Sports etc.

I get that "All in one" is now a bad thing because Xbox is doing all that.

The basic TV pass-through should just work regardless, you don't get the other advanced controls though. The guide, and using kinect to change channels for you etc. But the hdmi signal in and then on to your tv should work regardless I bet.

The advanced controls are the whole point of using it as a passthrough......

Sure, no doubt, but i'm just saying you can use it at it's basic as well, which still cuts down on needing to change inputs. You'll just have to actually grab your cable box remote to change channels for now.

I'm speechless. Why would they do this? It's beyond retarded.

There are some rumors that the inclusion of 32 MB of eSRAM on the APU has beefed up its size to the point of causing yield issues (larger chips = larger chance each chip to have a defect). Meaning there could potentially be a shortage of Xboxs come release day.

This news makes sense if you?re Microsoft and you know you will only have a limited supply of Xboxs. You?d only ship them where you?d know you could sell the most and ignore areas where there is less demand. Simple economics.

However, this doesn?t bode well for Microsoft. Say what you will about the bad PR the Xbox has gotten, if they can?t keep supply, that is what?s going to hurt them financially.

I think other factors come into play here, not just XBL, regional/localization of the new UI and services but also the kinect stuff, more voice control needs to support more languages as well so they're probably held back on that front for now.

As for Japan, they're going to release it there later in 2014, they said as much, they're going to wait once they have more games that the Japanese want, notice how no one showed any jRPG for the new systems aside from FF15 and KH3, you can count FF14 but it's a MMO and I don't care about playing it. I take this to mean they have deals in place with the Japanese publishers for more Japanese targeted games that just aren't ready now. No need to release there till those games are ready to be sold really.

Current PR is that Asia will be out in late 2014, except Japan which Microsoft has not given a timeframe.

Right, but the part about them working with local publishers to secure content that the market craves is key to the delay I think. Plus a few other stuff, it'd be nice if all those kinect voice commands work in as many different languages as possible unless they want to force everyone to use English. There's also licensing and retail deals to be finalized as well. It's hard to do a global release of something this complicated. Has everyone forgot about how we all had to wait for new systems and games to make their way out of Japan first and into the US? It's not that long ago really. Lots of stuff would be released in Japan first and then months later somewhere else.

I don't see supply as an issue, these consoles have a miinimum of a 5 year life cycle if not more, not everyone is an early adopter, historically I believe consoles sell more in subsequent years than in their first year so limited supply at this point isnt miuch of an issue other than the probablity that some sales will go to Sony when consumers can't actually get a hold of the product they may have wanted.

If the issue was lack of content or features, Microsoft could just launch with core games and disable those features. And I?m pretty sure this is what they will be doing in some of their launch markets (I don?t think TV listings are coming outside the US, are they?). No business would willingly cut out markets. That?s why I?m led to believe this is caused by production issues.

I'm sure production is key as well, I said in another post of mine that you can either try to rrelease in more markets but only have a tiny number of units for sale in each or you can limit the number and have more in each. As for the TV stuff, it's going to expand to more places in 2014, I think more markets will get it throughout the year as MS signs deals with more providers. There's already talk that they're working on a deal with Sky in the UK to also have SKy sell the XB1 for a lower, subsidized, price + the TV features. If Sky users can get it as a setop box option for say, 299 instead of the 429 retail price in the UK that could be a nice move.

X1 is every single game + requires license management that permits region changing (don't think PSN allows region changing yet). Mobile gaming doesn't count because then there is whole iOS thing already.

To be fair iOS isn't considered a console where as the Vita and 3DS are considered portable consoles. All what I said is that it's not the first to offer Day 1 Digital releases which is true (though like the X1, I hope all games will go this way for all consoles as it only benefits the consumers in the end).

It's not the first no, but with the switch to real money, no more points, and then also the digital backend and licensing systems and other things that have to get ironed out I can understand why there's a smaller November launch. Still, if they add more markets quick, like a few every month, then it shouldn't take long. I wasn't planning to rush out and buy either of the new systems on day 1, mostly because I think the really good games aren't coming till mid-2014, spring/summer etc.

Omg I just noticed The Witcher 3 devs/fans in Poland can't even play their own game on the Xbox One. Ouch.

It's not a launch title, when it's ready to be released it should play just fine in Poland.
