Previously announced for Xbox 360, PC, and PlayStation 3, Rainbow 6: Patriots is now a next-generation game, Ubisoft's Tony Key confirms to IGN.

"Rainbow 6 got caught in the transition of going to next-gen and essentially we?re figuring out ?well, are we making the right game for the right hardware systems??" Tony Key of Ubisoft says. "And you know, on Watch Dogs, the guys have been working on that game and it?s always been a next-generation game in their minds and the way they were designing it. And at the end of the day when the specs showed up for next generation, they had guessed right. That?s not always the case.?

?Sometimes you have to take a step back and go ?you know, I?m seeing the possibilities, but it's gonna take more time. We don?t really have anything else to announce or say about Rainbow 6, but we will say it?s a really exciting project for us and we can?t wait to say more.?

Surprised to see it still in development. I had a feeling it was being replaced by The Division.

Hopefully this'll be a nice single player alternative to The Division.

I think it's a good decision. This generation has gone on long enough. The more developers transition to the next generation, the better. I know a lot of people have invested in this generation but that's the price of progress. It sucks for developers like Rockstar because their next big game, GTA V, is coming out 2 months before the release of the Xbox One and PS4.

Let's hope they go back to their roots this time around. The last one I played was Rainbow Six: Vegas.

Really hope they get this game back to its tactical shooter roots. I haven't bothered with any of them after Raven Shield as they just came across as yet-another-CoD-clone games.

Well I wouldn't call the vegas games CoD clones by any stretch, they're not the good old RB6 games(and unfortunately we are to much a of a niche to get that again, until gamers start going tired of the same stuff and diversify again), as it is, it's the best tactical shooter out there and it does retain it's tactical no run and gun roots.
