Your Microsoft Points will painlessly convert to cash

Recommended Posts

Ecosystems can be a pain whenever a new platform arrives. For instance, when the Wii U launched, gamers weren't able to recover their Points from the old Wii marketplace and move it over directly to the Wii U (barring a workaround of buying something on WiiWare and performing a mass system transfer). But with the Xbox One, your Microsoft Points will instantly convert into an "equal or greater" value when the new straight-cash system is rolled out.

Actually, whenever the transition takes place later this Fall, regardless whether you own an Xbox One or not you'll get your money back in the new currency (and it looks like you have a year to spend the converted cash). That's good news for 360 owners out there who have no interest in an Xbox One -- which is basically everyone at this point. I'm just glad this is happening on both platforms, and the 360 isn't relegated to antiquated banana bucks.

Because after all, Microsoft says you should probably think about buying a 360 anyways.

Just so ya know...

I don't like point systems, I find them to be deceptive. If something costs $5.00 I pay $5.00. I don't like putting $25 in and getting X points which I use to buy products at Y. There is no need to confuse things except to confuse customers.

Yeah, I just hope you don't have to apply cash to your account in multiples of something, say something costs ?6 I have to put on ?10 because it only allows multiples of ?5's, that won't be much better than points imo.

I saw somebody say that MSP's actually make things cheaper. I don't know how that was worked out, or if that is a country specific thing.

Anybody have views on that?

Cheaper in that you can buy points cards on sale for less than what MS sells at normally. Sale with how you buy Live Gold for less. Now I expect they'll have cash cards to, but what are we talking about in that respect? A $10 card for what, $8?

I expect to see those in the form of cards, $5, $10, $25 and maybe a bit higher. As far as using exact money and not having left over like with points, well, if you link your account to a credit card then it should charge you auto for what it's worth exactly and not some fixed amount. Like how it does for me on my phone for example.

I once bought a 1600MSP card(i.e $20) on sale for $15 or something like that.
