+longgonebn Subscriber² Posted June 13, 2013 Subscriber² Share Posted June 13, 2013 So the past day or so I have been hearing this noise coming from my new system. It sounds like a fan is hitting a cable, so I checked everything out, CPU is fine, case fans are fine, even the video looks fine. I touch the middle video card fan (this card has 3) and the sound goes away. What the hell? What could be wrong, it's brand new?
Mindovermaster Moderator Posted June 13, 2013 Moderator Share Posted June 13, 2013 Most likely the bearing ball on the fan is off balance. Not sure how to fix it, sorry. +longgonebn 1 Share
+longgonebn Subscriber² Posted June 13, 2013 Author Subscriber² Share Posted June 13, 2013 hmm, is this a serious thing? Should I get it RMAd while I can?
roguekiller23231
it wont be a issue with the card fuctioning, or the fan cooling. in the fan will be small metal ball bearings, over time they ware down and so dont fit correctly so start to vibrate when they spin. it would be better to RMA it if it's still under warrenty, because the issue wont go away and it will most likely get worse. when requestion an RAM say one of the fans are faulty, because this is what it actually is, a faulty fan. Astra.Xtreme
It's possible that the fan's power wires are hitting the fan blades, but without taking it apart (and probably voiding the warranty), there's probably no easy way to fix it. As the others have said, you might as well RMA it, instead of attempting a fix that might only be temporary.
+longgonebn Subscriber² Posted June 18, 2013 Author Subscriber² Share Posted June 18, 2013 Yea I am probably going to RMA just to be safe, since I can. It just sucks, cause Newegg will take probably at best, 1 week to get me a new card. Oh wells, I will have to do without for that long. Thanks. Mindovermaster Moderator Posted June 18, 2013 Moderator Share Posted June 18, 2013 Think the above people mean RMA it to the manufacturer, not to Newegg.
+longgonebn Subscriber² Posted June 18, 2013 Author Subscriber² Share Posted June 18, 2013 I think Newegg is easier :)
