7 Ways to Avoid the NSA's Eavesdropping

Recommended Posts

Privacy is dead. Or, more precisely, it has been on life support since the beginning of time. Due to recent budget cuts life support of egregious commodities was deemed too costly and so it's dead now.

Humans are social beings by design. There has been, is and always will be someone who's not minding his own business and minds someone else's business instead, with varying amounts of success, and for multitude of reasons - pleasure, stupidity, curiosity, marketing statistics, vitally important strategic information, fear and quite possibly, because his own business is not much to mind about. That's not to say you should put your business on all possible stock exchanges, but acting against human nature is a sign of mental deviation of certain certainty.

You were being spied on for the past decade and it didn't affect your life in any way, why do you need to do things differently now that you're aware that you're being spied on?

So because we didn't know the extent in the past we shouldn't be angry now??

Are you really narcissistic enough to think the government feels you're special enough to track and waste resources on?

Oh no! espionage agencies are active in spying!

It's good that they're doing what they're doing. And you have nothing to worry about unless you're planning on/and or active in terrorism/crimes, and in that case, again, i hope they are tracking you.

So hilarious how so many people on the right were okay when the Bush Administration was doing this, but not the black guy!

Its not a good thing that they are spying on ITS OWN CITIZENS. Are you dumb? Its not about me its about ALL American citizens, They should not be collecting data on anyone except for people they believe to be terrorists. Releasing ALL cell phone records to the NSA is wrong period.

And to top off you're ridiculous comment you use the race card .

I don't mind be a little bit social, but there are many things I am not going to share, and I am particular with whom I am social.

But how would they know if you're a terrorist if they don't collect data? /s

Did you worry and complain when it was being done under the Bush administration?

In the 5 plus decades I have lived in the USA I have never had my rights impeded in any way shape or form. Does this mean I'm not concerned about what the NSA and other government agencies are doing, heck yes I am, my main concern is how are they protecting that info from being mishandled or misused. The same concern I have about information I share with businesses, organizations, groups, etc., whether voluntarily or not.

The only reason anyone is defending this unconstitutional act is because Obama

Yet many of us were ringing warning bells the moment the Patriot Act was announced, anyone with half a brain knew it would be abused, and we have the proof now, the legalities of the leak aside, this in NOT about politics, this is about defending the rights of ALL Americans no matter who the President is, it's still immoral and unconstitutional

8. Don't do illegal stuff.

Oh get over yourself. If you're not breaking the law, you don't matter to them.

you are failing to see the point, once this starts it wont stop. Why should I be treated like a terrorist? Why should my privacy be at risk? Why are you in this thread anyways? get over yourself.

I don't quite understand some of the reactions here.

If you're not doing anything wrong, then you have nothing to hide (in most cases). However, it is perplexing that some don't seem to be bothered by any possible eavesdropping. What more could be a violation of your rights? Your privacy?

EXACTLY!

doubt it, would bet all my worth on it too.

I'm not too sure about that, I just had all my files off Skydrive deleted. Wether you believe me or not is up to you, but that's the reason I posted on this stuff. I had to make sure my account wasn't accessed when I logged in anywhere else but when I found that it had not, I kind of felt weird. All that was left from it was my Billing Order, 1 of my 26 funnypictures, none of my school work, and all of my files like VSO ConvertX to Dvd, Geek Squad MRI, JVPowertools and a couple other programs were gone.

One day as well if you do find out how to bet your "worth on it" message me and we can have this bet :)

All uploads to skydrive are scanned

Who determines what constitutes vulgarity on a private storage solution? Most reasonable people would also agree that private services should protect against things like child pornography. But imagine if E.L. James decided to use a cloud backup solution for the next book in the Fifty Shades of Grey series. Would those text files, which could be vulgar, profane, or obscene to some, cause James? SkyDrive account to get shut down?

And how did Microsoft know that there was such content on the user?s SkyDrive account? The only plausible explanation is that Microsoft is analyzing content uploaded to SkyDrive ? even content uploaded to private folders ? and it?s likely an automated process designed to pull the trigger when it ?sees? certain content (such as nudity

The overall tone in this thread is just sad.

People are just stupid and clueless man. It's better not to argue with them because they'll never understand.

I never agree'd with the patriot act and if I knew what was going on back then I would of been ****ed then too. They don't need to spy on millions of Americans to capture or stop terrorists. Some good old detective work and monitoring of shady websites and youtube videos helps, and they have done such. But collecting millions of peoples cell phone records is wrong. I don't care what administration is in office.

Let me get this straight, instead of disabling networking hardware in any modern OS, it's recommended to use Win95? The NSA thing stinks, but that suggestion is just retarded.

Don't want to risk being monitored or having your privacy invaded? Don't use modern technology. It isn't right but it is the reality.

Why do people care if they're being monitored anyway? Given the current narcissistic, "look at me! look at me!" culture where everyone wilfully hands over all types of personal information I would have thought people would be thrilled at the thought of being watched.

Amen! It was wrong under Bush and it's still wrong under Obama. If something isn't done it'll be wrong under the next President too.

We should have a 1 day of no internet use to protest the NSA storing people's data. I am certain they have stuff stored from me and countless others. I have heard they're not evening catching alot of people with the prism program.

Huge difference between wanting attention from ones peers and unintentionally and unwillingly having the government look at your personal phone records. Even if they don't look at mine personally they still obtained them.

Oh, I don't know, I think some people will take and and all the attention they can get.

I'm kidding, of course, I know there is a difference. :)

This reminds me of the story on Battlestar Gallactica where Adama didn't want a networked computer on board because of the Cylon infiltrations
