Final Fantasy 14 : A Realm Reborn screenshots and opinion

Recommended Posts

So I preordered FF14 collector's edition version 1.0 back in the day 3 years ago.

I got invited to the beta a few days ago for the new release of the game, and I am allowed to share photos if I post that all images are "Copyright © 2010 - 2013 SQUARE ENIX CO., LTD. All Rights Reserved."

So now that it's over with, I must say this game has improved dramatically. You can even alt-tab! lol.

All the areas have been redone with a non-copy pasted layout of mazes.

The graphics are pretty damn good. These screenshots are 2560x1600 with High settings, but no AA because it lags a lot with my measly gtx480.

See for yourself in these screens:

I got into the beta for this weekend as well. I never played the original release so i can't comment on improvements and whatnot, but from what i've seen so far this new version seems pretty good.

I'm in the beta but I haven't gotten the energy to figure out what my account name was.

I like catgirls, so I'll be depressed if ARR isn't significantly better than 1.0...where I spent about an hour and a half just trying to find the exit to the first town said the hell with it and quit.

Really? The game is trying to pull itself out of the grave, and you post the first screenshot with that?

Anyways...

The game has vastly improved from 1.0,

Combat is fluid, movement is fluid. The UI is responsive, and well thought out. The races are many, and the options to customize them are many. The game has the feeling of FFXI, while retaining what a staple MMO of 2013 should have. The fact it is multi-platform and you can pick between JP/NA & EU servers, combined with auto-translate functions creates a vivid community of people from all over the world. It is about time an MMO with a decent community came out of the woodwork, I miss that in games of this nature.

I can't wait, having played in the XIV 1.0 alpha/beta to live to 2.0 alpha/beta... It has been a long time coming, and quite honestly i'm tired of waiting. The next few months should seal the deal, and decide if all of this has been in vain for Square Enix.

I played a few minutes of the beta, and I played just as far in the original beta, and I just cannot get into this game. It just feels Dated already. I think one of the things that hurts the game for me, is that its a newer game and it does not have voice acting for required sequences, events you cannot skip that you have to read through.

Other than that there are just a lot of little things that make the game not fun for me.

I finally played it.  So much better.

The narrator for the intro scene could've been better but that was my only complaint this time, good to see some competent devs takin' care of business.

I played a little bit this weekend, it's pretty fun, I haven't much time to play it right now though.

Love it, got a legacy toon at level 50, kinda stinks you gotta go through all the story quests again but I can see the reason why. The general premise of the story is different, so it's not so stale.

So square released a new version of the benchmark today(here:NA/EU) and i'm rather impressed with it. It's nearly identical in content to the first but my average framerate went up about 20fps(on max settings) compared the original one. Also, this benchmark allows you to make your character how you want it and import it into the release version. Which is quite nice.

Is it a subscription game? If it is I'll pass. It's not the money, it's the time. I don't have time to force myself to make the most out of the time I pay for in an MMO. If it's free there is no pressure and I can enjoy my playtime. It's why I still love GW2.

It is.

On the PS3 the targeting with the control pad is atrocious.

I can't say I really enjoyed the beta on either PC or PS3 which is a shame. I found it to be strikingly similar to FFXII.

I ran the benchmark today and only got 6200. :/ I guess it's time to build a new pc. (not for this game, but just in general)

It's decent, minus all the fetch quests in the beginning. Not sure if I care much for the battle system though, as it seems rather slow and a bit unfun if compared to other MMOs.

The game is beautiful though, and the UI feel really well done.

I've been playing this beta for a while and am loving it. Me and a couple of friends are all starting out together.

I played FFXI back in the day and was in the original FFXIV beta never played full FFXIV as beta didn't leave the best taste. So far the FFXIV: ARR beta has been much more enjoyable.

Is the game like FFXI where the world is split into discrete zones, that require loading screens when traveling between them?

I agree. I too just don't have the time to justify the monthly cost but would play periodically if I could. It would be nice if these MMOs would adopt different price models. For instance, $15/mo for unlimited access and have a pay for minute model that is like $15 for 15 hours or something. If you choose the second option those hours don't expire and you can play more to your schedule if you are a 'lite' MMO gamer.

Not touching this with a 100ft barge poll after the original.  I don't know why but after WoW, all mmorpgs seem to lack something despite my attempts to try almost every one.

I definately understand that, but it's a completely different game from what I've played.

I'm not even sure 'game' is the right word for the original.  Apparently some people played it, but for the life of me I couldn't figure out why.
