MS needs to circle the wagons and come up with a definitive press release to clarify all this. Some of what MN says goes against what is on Xbox.com.

First its the Windows 8 controversy, then its Xbox One controversy. What is Microsoft do next to cause a controversy, add DRM to it's Microsoft Mouse and have it control your curser from the cloud?

They said it was something like 100kb per check so not really.

Im sure he mention it to online gaming as well and not just for the check in's.

I watched the video and it was about checking in with the games that you have installed. Not a big deal.

I bet you could also use a satellite connection to check in as well. Between those two, you should cover 99 percent of the planet.

Again, people keep making too much out of this. It's not a big deal at all. Most people complaining about Xbox One being online are already online. These are the people that use their phones and tablets on WiFi, it's disgusting.

Colleges are going towards more online classes, you can't even get a job without the Internet. I mean get this, even if you need unemployment, you have to have a credit card and the only way you can transfer funds from that into your bank account is ONLINE. State and Federal taxes are now all done online.

Wake up and understand its 2013.

Not all of these people are online all the time, they may experience outages of longer than a day, when I moved here it took 3 months for my internet provider to activate the line that was already connected, people in the military are often sent away to places without internet, or if it had the intended its one of those "pay lots of money for a code" that consoles can't connect to anyway. They may even be sent many places in their own country on training courses etc, what do you expect them to do? Pay $30 a month to tether? My friends in university can't get their consoles on the internet because all online banking ports including XBL are banned on the campus networks.

Yes it's 2013, but also understand many people can't get on the internet. There will be ways to do everything without internet.

I would expect the activation and updating to use common ports. I'm guessing they planned for this, anyway.

And they did say military had an exception of some kind. I don't know how it's set up though.

I have been on DSL in Northern NJ, I have been on DSL in Los Angeles, and I have been on Comcast cable in Northern California in the sticks. I have NEVER EVER been without Internet for an entire day. Where are you guys?

Do you have really poor modems or routers or something and you can't bother to power cycle them? That is the only time I can think of if your Internet went out or you using DSL which uses a horrible phone line that is a century old technology and I didn't have issues with mine, but I worked for Tech Support for a DSL ISP and there were problems with modems overheating. Once that problem was fixed everything was fine.

"There will be ways to do everything without internet." - uh no. Take online classes without having the Internet, try to find a job without the Internet. When I tried to hand in my resume in 2006 when I was out of a job, I was told that they would not accept it unless it was online. This was a hospital. So, I took my resume and submitted it online and that was in 2006. I think you really are not living in reality.

I have seen many colleges play Xbox Live and multiplayer games. I mean you can play multiplayer with your laptop, I fail to see how that is going to be disrupted as well.

"You can go Mobile. You can tether to your phone" - This is reference for the online check when not having a good Internet connection.

I listened to it again and checked 3 times at your 11:30 mark.

I have, I have been, and I have, I have NEVER EVER, I tried, I was, I took, I think,I have

So because you're OK, everyone else is too? You've opened my eyes. Im going to buy one now. When a tree take down the phone lines, or I get sent on a training course, or to Afghanistan, or the Falklands. I shall stare longingly at my Xbox, sigh and say

"At least YogurtMaster never has to be without internet"

I'm just going to call up my friends in University around the country who's IT admins have blocked all ports used by online gaming and tell them

"It's OK, I know this guy on a forum in America who knows other guys in college, also in America who can use campus networks to go on Xbox live"

As for a company demanding you submit your resume online? You don't need internet in your home for that, use a local library or something. I don't think they'd take too kindly to dragging a TV and Xbox down. I've been without internet for 3 weeks in my own place because a tree fell and took down the exchange box for this area. I routinely get sent away on courses for months at a time, and overseas on deployments. On these occasions I could play my 360 single player. Skyrim kept me entertained on my last tour in Afghanistan.

I think if you are in Afghanistan then you have more problems than playing video games. If you work as part of the military I am sure Microsoft isn't going to leave you hanging.

I know for a fact that many people are like me. My wife has been playing on the PC with many people from Mexico and people from the UK on her PC and she has friends from other countries even on her Xbox and she never had problems playing online games with them.

I am sure that the ports that Microsoft uses will work with your colleges as well. You guys are just trying to find excuses to make your case.

"BUT I CAN'T PLAY MY XB1 IN A CAVE BELOW THE EARTH!" - oh no! You guys are just whiny little brats looking for excuses to hate. You don't live in reality and it's all just hyperbole. There are facts that happen to live in reality, and then there is your level of hyperbole that is beyond that of reason.

I am not trying to defend Microsoft at all here, but this isn't reasonable. It's like crying about how Kinect takes your privacy (when Microsoft has that covered) and then forgetting all of the sensors and cameras in Tablets, Laptops, and phones. You sound fanatical and very unstable.

I am excited about the new features that Microsoft offers with the XB1 and I want to see how the OS, games, and cloud based approach evolves. Remember the "Blades" when Microsoft launched the XB360, now imagine the XB1 evolving the cloud aspects and the OS aspects and how is this going to evolve over time?

Well, if you think that it shows you know nothing about what it's like in the main bases like Kandahar, when I finish my shift at 6pm what do I do then? Stare at a wall till 6AM when Im back in work? I didn't say nobody was like you, but you're acting like everybody is like you. Did I say that everybody in the UK can't get on Xbox Live? No. I said my friends in University, have their ports blocked by the IT staff so you can't get on Xbox Live on any campus network.

But no, everyone in the World has internet 24/7 in your World, this has been proven by you having met some people online from Mexico and the UK. I have to be a whiny little brat because I have legitimate concerns about not being able to connect sometimes.

I'm not looking for excuses to hate, I love my 360, it's been around the World with me, and all over the country because of the courses work sends me on. This "online every 24 hours" legitimately hits me hard. If you're going to try and make points, do try and make valid ones. I see you've had to sink to the level of insulting me because I'm not like you. Bravo.

What benefits are people getting from checking in every 24 hours? It wouldn't effect me but, I don't feel like i should be forced to put check in online if i'm not playing a offline game.

Edit: grammar

There's that your patches will download even if you're not at the console, avoiding you a several gig download in some cases when you just want to play.

Being able to share your library with yourself and family no matter where you/they are as well.

No, I did not. I split one check for one console into one 100kb data chunk. Several gigs of downloads would be with your normal internet connection like it always would've been.

You'll note Windows 8 has mobile broadband settings wherein it will not download anything it doesn't need to unless you specify otherwise.

ms is just weeding out the cheapskates, whiners and pirates, and giving them free bus passes to board the ps4 train. ms is moving towards targeting those that will actually keep spending money on content.

It sucks to say but if you aren't able to have a decent online connection in order to "check-in" your games, the Xbox One is not for you. It sucks for fans of the Xbox and their exclusive titles, and great controller, but that is the path that Microsoft is taking. Is it the wrong path? I don't think so, but it is the path they want to take in order to be ready for the future.

<snipped>

There are many arguments against needing to have an internet connection for a once a day check in. And how are people "Scum" for joining the Military? For many people it's just a job.

But you're making such a big deal out of problems YOU don't have, so we can't hear the real complaints. Just fyi, IF Xbox One requires internet check-in using a port that is blocked on the University, MANY people will complain and they would open it. One thing is now when people say they want to play WoW, BF etc. but when you tell them your device won't even work offline without the check-in, they would most likely open it up to avoid major complaints.

you just split several gigs of download into numerous 100kb download, and thats:

Patches have never been required for offline play, and as far as I know MS hasn't said that that's about to change(won't happend). You have background downloads on X360, but you can TURN IT OFF, and I'm 99,99999% sure you can with automatic patch downloads too. It's a FEATURE, not a REQUIREMENT. Stop making problems where there are non. People have enough of other real problems to complain about.

I've already complained about the issues that affect me, I used examples from people I personally know to show that this won't just affect me and people in my circumstances.

that reminded me of when I worked overseas, back then I had my Nintendo Wii with me. Imagine if I had the Xbox One and the only way to use it was to use data. Oh what a bill!
