Good MP3 software?

Question

Can anyone recommend some good MP3 software for me? I'm on windows 8. I tried iTunes, but it doesn't like to refresh my library so I am stuck with only 50 or so songs out of 7000. What alternatives are there aside from Winamp? Winamp is good and all, but it likes to lag on me and not properly buffer songs. Every 4 or 5 songs it stops for 10-15 seconds to get more of the song.

AIMP3.

Imho, the best audio player on any platform and extremely light on resources. It has library/tagger/converter/radio...etc. Several Metro/Touch skins are available on Deviantart and/or on AIMP forum.

J River Media Center.  You have to pay for it, but it is better than the free alternatives, and yes, regardless of the common misconception, it does tend to have a better quality of sound output on high-bitrate files.

The difference between WMP and JR when played through a proper set of speakers is night and day.

Why not default Windows Media Player that comes built in Windows 7/8?

Use some separate tagging software like Tag&Rename (Paid but worth it) to organize and clean the tags.

iTunes sucks because it cannot "Watch" your MP3 collection folder for any changes you make to tags or file names. WMP 11/12 does that on the fly.

Not to mention few idiotic services which get installed forcefully along with iTunes. If you do not have any iDevice then there is no point in using iTunes apart from occasionally buying legit music.

Winamp as a music player must retire. It's antiquated technology with equally outdated default interface which no skinning can compensate.

J River Media Center is an unnecessary paid bloated music player.

The behind the scenes library management of WMP 11/12 is miles ahead of competition. I am not an audiophile who describes music like some sommelier.  But still I personally think WMP music quality is superior to iTunes and J River Media Center on Grado SR-325is head phones.

But the best part of WMP as you know it, its free and native.

I second this. For quite a while I used Foobar because it offers impressive customization. But about a year ago I found Aimp3 and haven't looked back. It's extremely lightweight, has nice skins, good customization and sounds better than Foobar, as well.

Edit: just noticed this thread is a month old...hopefully the OP found a good solution by now.

This is probably the biggest single collection of mis information I've seen on this board, well done.
