Windows 8 App Development

Recommended Posts

I was thinking of making a Windows 8 app for my website, which is then in the Microsoft Store, and wouldn't want to charge anyone, just have it free.

So I can learn and play about, but am I right in thinking I have to pay for a right to do that ?33 iirc? That seems stupid and wheres the incentive for people to learn?

I thought I'd download the Visual Studio Express 2012, and just have it offline and create it, but then it said something about my free license runs out in 30 days.

Whats the bleeding point in creating it?  Wasted opportunity from Microsoft?

You can develop for free, the developer licence just needs to be renewed every 30 days. There is no charge for it.

To put it in the store you need a store account which they charge a yearly fee for. The alternative is to sign up for something like BizSpark where you get given a free store account for Win8 & WP.
