Backing up Chrome before a reformat to restore exactly as it was?

Recommended Posts

I'm talking bookmarks, cookies, passwords etc.

Not so much cache files.

e.g. I use MozBackup for Firefox. Is there an ideal equivalent for Chrome?

I know some data is storage in "the cloud", but is all of the above?

Press Win+R on your keyboard to open the Run dialog and type:

%appdata%

Look in there for a "Chrome" or "Google" folder. If it exists, then that's most likely where all of your browser data is stored, excluding temporary/cache files.

I don't have Chrome installed on my PC, but rather have a portable version, so I don't know for certain where that browser stores its data.

Of course, a simple Google search 10 seconds later proves me wrong:

Backup the folder (mentioned in the link), restore it afterwards, and Chrome will be just as it was.

Sync that **** mate, dead simple. All my settings follow me wherever I go now. Including Chrome settings, bookmarks and custom search engines. Very handy.

Does it also sync cookies? (logins for websites etc.)

I sync my main desktop Chromium with laptop Chrome and they sync flawlessly, I log out from one side and I already log out from another, same bookmarks both side. Only difference is New Tab Pages thumbnails which I think does not matter.

It does not do that.It will sync your saved username/passwords and forms though.

Oh, that's crap then.

I've just copied the User Data folder, let's hope that works :)
