Mazda3 Sedan Update

BREAKING: 2014 Mazda3 fully leaked

Sleek and attractive

The all-new 2014 Mazda3 has leaked online ahead of an official reveal scheduled for later today.

It turns out previous leaked photos were authentic as the Mazda3 adopts the same Kodo design language seen on the larger Mazda6. It comes with a prominent front grille, sweptback headlights and muscular front fenders. The back of the car shows a roof-mounted spoiler, dual exhaust setup and wraparound tailllights. The new generation is 4465mm long, 1795mm wide and 1450mm tall, with a 2700mm wheelbase. With the rear seats up it has a 350-liter cargo capacity which can be expanded to 1,250 liters after folding the rear seats.

The 2014 Mazda3 will be offered with a SKYACTIV-G 1.5-liter engine developing 100 HP (74 kW) at 6,000 rpm and 150 Nm (110 lb-ft) of torque at 4,000 rpm which will be enough for a 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) run in 10.8 seconds and a top speed of 113 mph (182 km/h).

There's also a SKYACTIV-G 2.0-liter mill rated at 120 HP (88 kW) at 6,000 rpm and 210 Nm (155 lb-ft) at 4,000 rpm. Fitted with this engine, the new Mazda3 will sprint to 62 mph in 8.9 seconds on its way to a maximum speed of 121 mph (195 km/h).

The same engine is offered with i-ELOOP (regenerative braking system) producing 165 HP (121 kW) at 6,000 rpm and 210 Nm (155 lb-ft) at 4,000 rpm. It will need 8.2 seconds until 62 mph before hitting a top speed of 130 mph (210 km/h).

Lastly, the 2014 Mazda3 will be available with a SKYACTIV-D 2.2 diesel engine generating 150 HP (110 kW) at 4,500 rpm and a peak torque of 380 Nm (280 lb-ft) at 1,800 rpm. 0-62 mph takes 8.1s and top speed stands at 130 mph (210 km/h).

In terms of gearbox choices, the SKYACTIV-G 1.5 and SKYACTIV-G 2.0 with i-ELOOP are available exclusively with a six-speed manual. SKYACTIV-G 2.0 and SKYACTIV-D 2.2 can be had with the same six-speed manual or an optional six-speed automatic transmission.

Weight (without driver) varies from 1,190 kg (2,623 lbs) for the SKYACTIV-G 1.5-powered model and goes up to 1,330 kg (2,932 lbs) for the SKYACTIV-D 2.2 equipped with the automatic gearbox. The new Mazda3 has a MacPherson strut front suspension and a multi-link rear setup, while stopping power is provided by ventilated front and solid rear discs.

I assume there's no chance of the US getting that diesel.

Not bad. Looks better than the outgoing 3.

I'm looking forward to seeing what the next gen MX-5 looks like.

Saw this earlier, it looks so much better than the current (derpy) 3! Cars that "smile" just look plain stupid

I love my wife's M3 sport.  But that new model is very cute!  I am wondering however how rust will be on new models.  Our is 3 months old and it is leased because I was too afraid to buy it because of rust problem.

I've read in some forums it was pre-2008 and some other places still saying paint is bad and will result in rust problem with new model (up to 2013).

Anyway, that car is fun to drive and looks so cute!

i couldnt agree more.  the front end was the first thing i looked for and it appears they changed it just enough to get rid of that.

It's too minimalistic for me. Doesn't even look like there's radio buttons on the dash, and it has to be operated via the iDrive like system/steering wheel, which is miserable!

The new 3 series is very minimal:

Funny that you wrote this. The first thing that came to my mind when I saw the interior pictures was that it looked pretty similar to BMW's. From the iDrive-like knob, to the shape of the manual gear knob, to the screen.

lol, i'm sure it must have been 'inspired'...but i like the design more on mazda then i do in bmw's...for a luxury car, the whole array of instruments just seems cheap/unnecessarily complicated/intimidating/redundant.

My vehicle is 10 years old, making me want to buy a new one. Trying to hold off and buy a nice luxury vehicle.

What is the knob for by the shifter?

Big one is for the infotainment system. The small one could either be driving mode select, volume knob, etc.

Nice to see that they toned down the giant smiley mouth front.

Just curious why it's more convenient to have volume controls down there by the shifter than on the radio..

The screen looks out of place, does it fold down?

Well since the infotainment system is controlled by the big knob, it makes it convenient to change the volume since your hand is right there next to the knob. Let's say you change to a radio channel, and for some ungodly reason the new station is really loud, you could just adjust the volume right then and there (rather than resorting to the steering wheel). It's a guess on my part, it could be the volume knob, or it could be a knob for driving dynamics (Sport, comfort, etc.). Audi typically places the volume knob next to the MMI controller.

I loved the first gen Mazda 3 (not for myself, but in general - my mom and my niece drive it), Very sleek and attractive!

However the second gen was just garbage!  the tail lights were weird and the whole front was terrible !   Far from being universally attractive, like the first gen was!

This new one looks like they might have learned their lesson!    However I wanna see how the sedan looks like...  as I always preferred it in mazda 3.

Because your arm is already there on the armrest and you don't have to raise it in order to reach for the panel. (it's all about the conservation of energy :D)

2014 Mazda3 Sedan revealed in official photos

Mini Mazda6

These are the first official photos of the 2014 Mazda3 Sedan which will go on sale before the end of the year.

Looking even better than the hatchback, the all-new Mazda3 Sedan looks like a more compact Mazda6 with an elongated roofline and a fresh rear end which is more attractive than on the five-door Mazda3. As you would expect, the interior cabin will be carried over while cargo area will be significantly bigger thanks to the longer rear overhang.

At the moment there aren't details about engine lineup but most likely it will be borrowed from the hatchback, including the SKYACTIV 2.0-liter with 155 bhp (115 kW) and the beefier SKYACTIV-G 2.5-liter with 184 bhp (137 kW) for the U.S-spec model.

Other markets also get a smaller SKYACTIV-G 1.5-liter producing 99 bhp (74 kW) and a 118 bhp (88 kW) version of the aforementioned 2.0-liter unit. Mazda will also offer a more frugal SKYACTIV-D 2.2 diesel outputting 147 bhp (110 kW). Depending on engine selection, gearbox choices will include a SKYACTIV-fitted six-speed manual and an automatic.
