Looking For A Good, Reliable, Not Too Expensive Web Host

Question

I am creating my website on Rapidweaver for Mac. I created a PayPal business account as I will be selling stuff on my website. PayPal generated the HTML codes I need to integrate the BUY buttons and stuff on my website coding so that's done. What I need is a good, reliable, not too expensive host.

I have seen these but I am not familar with them:

Bluehost - www.bluehost.com

GoDaddy: www.godaddy.com

These here:

Any suggestions will be appreciated. Thanks

I have to say, GoDaddy's customer support has been stellar for me! They're reliable as well! :)

Site5 all the way, I have been using them for over 2 years now, no problems at all, all downtime has been pre-announced, planned and minimal all this time,  with plans starting at just $4.95 a month you can't go wrong with them, give them a try! http://www.site5.com/

Godaddy is the scum of the internet businesses. Stay far far away. I was on Bluehost for years, had no problems with it, but my usage was tiny. Note that it's hosted in Mormon country, I've heard that they're rather prudish in some respects.

Most of the "big name" hosting companies do a ~$10/mo "unlimited" shared hosting deal. It's just the generic hosting plan with other resource limitations (e.g. CPU cycles, memory usage, etc.) instead of "disk space" or "transfer limits". These are your generic hosting providers, and any of the establish ones will give you similar experiences, e.g. Bluehost, Dreamhost, HostGator, etc...

You would be fine if all you want is a generic shared hosting and not use much resources. However, with such low resource usage you can probably get much cheaper service from elsewhere. Other services that actually charge you for what you use, or have plans that resemble actual cost better, are able to charge low prices for low usage and higher prices for greater usage rather than averaging it out. If you use less, it's cheaper, if you use more, it's more expensive, but your demands won't be properly serviced by those generic hosts so you'll have to shell out that money anyway.

I was paying $100+/yr on Bluehost, but I've since switched to NearlyFreeSpeech.Net and only pay for what I actually use now, which is a few bucks a year. It is in the US though, I don't care because there's no non-public data on it. There's also Gandi, which is french, it's generally well regarded for their domain registrations but they do hosting too. A Small Orange is in the US, it had a great reputation, I'm not sure if it still does, google around. There's HostPapa in Canada, which is just your generic host akin to Bluehost et. al.

Avoid Blue Host. I had an account with them a few years ago and their downtime and lack of support were terrible. I had to transfer my site to Just Host (a much better service) because of Blue Host's terrible downtime. Also, once your site gets above a certain size, they shut it off. Read some actual customer reviews and you'll see. Stay away!

I (and the company I work for) have used DowntownHost for several years now. They have always been reliable, and when things have gone wrong, their support has always been excellent.

So my question is, any of these hosts should be able to handle my web site, including the PayPal thing, correct?

Arvixe (http://www.arvixe.com) has been pretty reliable for me with a great customer service.

I checked them out. I like the idea of being able to pay monthly instead of a one-time chunk of money. Checking them out right now.

I went ahead and got a domain in this host you suggested. So far, so good. I used RapidWeaver to create my website on the Mac. It was a snap. I got a great deal for $5.63 a month with an online coupon I found and I can cancel any time. Their customer service is excellent. Very easy to use interface. Thanks.

Thanks all for your inputs.

I use Bluehost and haven't had any problems.  But just FYI (as I just learned this a few days ago) the company that owns bluehost also owns justhost and a bunch of others: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Endurance_International_Group
