Asiana Boeing 777 from Korea broke up on landing at San Francisco International Airport

CNN....

(CNN) - A Boeing 777 operated by Asiana Airlines crashed while landing Saturday at San Francisco International Airport.

Flight 214 left Seoul's Incheon International Airport earlier Saturday and flew 10 hours and 23 minutes to California, according to FlightAware, a website that offers tracking services for private and commercial air traffic.

Anthony Castorani, who witnessed the flight land from a nearby hotel, said he saw the plane touch the ground then noticed a larger plume of white smoke.

"You heard a pop and you immediately saw a large, brief fireball that came from underneath the aircraft," he told CNN. "It began to cartwheel."

Kristina Stapchuck saw the dramatic scene unfold from her seat on a plane on the airport tarmac. Soon after Flight 214 touched down, "it looked like the tires slipped a little bit and it rocked back," she told CNN.

Parts of the plane began to break off as it rocked and then began to spin.

"It all happened so suddenly," Stapchuck told CNN.

Video taken soon after the crash and posted on YouTube showed dark gray smoke rising from the plane, which appeared to be upright. That smoke later became white, even as fire crews continued to douse the plane.

A photograph posted to Twitter shows what appear to be passengers walking off the plane, some of them toting bags, as smoke rises from the other side.

The top of the aircraft was charred and, in spots, gone entirely, according to video from CNN affiliate KTVU. The plane was on its belly, with no landing gear evident and the rear tail of the plane gone.

Watched this live on CNN.  From the debris field, this guy looks like he was way below glide scope, if I used the proper term.  It appears the pilot contacted the breaker rocks placed at the bay, about 50m before the runway.

Sure hope everyone survives.

how long until someone starts the conspiracy theories in this?......

looks like the plane came in way too low before the threshold...

Obviously it was a North Korea military plane trying to drop com trails on San Fran, and the US military shot it down with their special shark with laser beam weapon.

From the looks of the damage, I'd be amazed if even half the passengers lived. :|

While smoking my medical marijuana, I'm sure I saw a UFO sheer off the top of the jet. :s

(CNN) - At least two people were killed and more than 100 injured in Saturday morning's crash landing of an Asiana Airlines' Boeing 777 at San Francisco International Airport, San Francisco Fire Chief Joanne Hayes-White told reporters.

"Upwards of approximately 60 people" are unaccounted for, and about 130 people have been transported to hospitals, she said.

On board were 291 passengers and 16 flight crew members, traveling from Incheon International Airport in Seoul to San Francisco, according to a public relations spokesperson for Asiana Airlines.

Incidents like this always remind me why I hate people and the media (usually, America's terrible news channels)

I mean you had CNN/MSNBC/FOX talking about the plane doing cartwheels, spinning, flipping, having it's wings ripped off etc all while showing a ****ing picture of the plane with both wings still intact the right way up. Come on it doesn't take a genius to realize the plane didn't cartwheel and flip over...

And then you have people like this:

Mr Eun, who describes himself as a "digital media guy" and "frequent flier", added: "Fire and rescue people all over the place. They're evacuating the injured. Haven't felt this way since 9/11."

Did you seriously compare this to 9/11? You know the one where terrorists crashed planes into buildings, the WTC was reduced to rubble, and 3000+ people died?

---

Not to mention the reports of people stopping to grab their cabin baggage while exiting the plane...Seriously? It's more important for you to grab your ****ing bag when people behind you are trying to exit from a plane that just crashed?

Been following a few different news sources, and although it's too early to speculate, there's been several reports of the plane actually doing a 70? "cart wheel" before coming to rest. Even a young guy sitting inside the plane who managed to sneak out and speak with media for 10 secs said the same thing before police escorted him away...

Anyways, here's an interesting video from inside the plane;

What could have happened is the plane did a ground loop, it isn't the same thing as a cart wheel. A ground loop can cause the plane to cartwheel but that's not what happened here. There would have been substantial damage to the wings, to the point that they would have been ripped off. The wings are still very much intact.

Granted I'm not expecting everyone in the world to know all the specific aviation terms, but there's a reasons why experts exist. In 5 seconds of looking up various aviation websites (reddit aviation, airliners.net, avherald) I got 500x more information about this crash than I did from MSNBC/FOX/CNN's live reports. Why can't the media do that?

Instead they're more interested in telling us a billion possible theories, nothing based on any sort of facts and general fear mongering. Even before any information was available CNN was going on about the airlines safety record and blaming the pilots. Was it the pilots fault? Probably, but at that time there was 0 proof of it, and even now it isn't 100% confirmed to be the pilots fault.

CNN talking about how this was an emergency landing. Really? What proof you have of that because the ATC audio mentioned nothing about an emergency. It was fairly normal till **** hit the fan (so to speak).

Then you had MSNBC talking to someone who started off their conversation with "well I didn't see the crash." Why the **** are you interviewing someone about details of the crash when they didn't see it? At that point I would have been like thank you, goodbye.

Here's a lovely quote from Reddit about CNN's reporting:

CNN was a mess. The reporters are talking about reports of a wing breaking off and and the plane cartwheeling across the tarmac and flipped upside down, but the video feed from the helicopters clearly shows both wings attached and the plane sitting right side up.

I can't help but feel the real reason they wouldn't report that the passengers were okay (and are still saying "no word on the condition of the passengers") is because they're trying to keep people watching.

---

I mean seriously? Why can't the American news media be more like I dunno, the BBC? The BBC article for the longest while just stated a plane had crashed, we don't have the full details but here's what we know for certain. Then just simple things like the flight details, the tail being damaged, number of people on board the plane etc. Nothing about planes flipping over, wings being ripped off.

The American news media just seems to care about spewing a random bunch of crap and hoping that one of them is correct so they can yell FIRST. It's more fear mongering and absolutely terrible BS opinions than facts. Go look at their coverage of the Boston Bombing if you want more proof of that.

Please for the love a god don't listen to CNN/MSNBC/FOX etcccc.. There is so much bull**** coming out there that is completely innacurate, they make **** up as they go all the time.

airliners.net is alot better source because people have alot better understanding about aviation.

To me it seems like "pilot error" using VFR flight rules but that just my opinion.

Aerospace source:48 critical. The 2 deaths were 16 year old girls from China on their way to some kind of summer camp. Supposedly a lot of head injuries, which begs why if their belts were on (or were they?)

People should always follow that advice. There are much more reputable and objective news channels, like Al Jazeera.

They were talking about the tail section of the plane, the part that was missing from the picture of the rest of the plane.
