What does $400 get me?

Recommended Posts

As I've ventured through various forums (gaming and non gaming sites), all I keep hearing is bashing of the XB1... "Anti-Consumer", "DRM", "Spy-Gate", insert paranoid biased rant, etc...

All the tech Software and Hardware, that I want is in the console that does cost $500. As I looked at the reveal (I loved every moment of it) and E3 (take my $$$ now please)... I was/am sold...

I did reserve both next gen consoles on Amazon and purchased day and date delivery for each... So let's clear that up before I go any further...

After E3 I wondered about the $400 investment I'm about to make over the $500 investment.

I plan on holding on to my $400 reservation just in case I'm surprised come Gamescon or TGS.

Is a graphics card upgrade and $100 worth the investment? I have 2x of the previous version in my home already. I do love some of the games for it, but also hate a lot about it as well

I bring my son to GameStop from time to time (right down the street from my house so why not, and some of the staff there are actually pretty cool. Shocking I know... But there are about 4 employees who just bash the XB1 and tell me to invest $400 instead of $500.

I ask them to give me a compelling argument on why should I... And they never can...

All I keep hearing is $100 and 50% more power. Sure I guess sweeter eye candy is a bragging point for some. But that is not a 10yr selling point for me. And they never can get beyond those 2 benefits.

There is a game on Steam called MAGICKA, a little cartoon looking game with a little wizard... Not a graphics intensive game, but one of the most enjoyable games out there (wish it were on consoles)...

I am not dogging the $400 console, by any means...

But nobody has yet justify to me on why to spend less money...

$500 is not a concern considering I know it's what I wanted, and knowing what my $500 is giving me in return...

I'm willing to pay $10 a year for a camera

I'm will ping to pay $40 for XB Live passes (never pay full price of $60, if you don't have to)

I'm willing to have tv,tv,tv, sports, sports, sports, skype, snap in, impulse triggers...

I can accept DDR3 memory and 32mb of ESRAM...

I can't wait to see what the cloud offers every year that goes by, and developers find new challengers for using it...

I love reputation system, as time goes on, I will no longer have to get away from the annoying gamers, they will up basically we'd themselves out...

By digital and can jump to any game instantly, in a blink, or watch "tv" while it's searching for a match for me, and then instantly snap back to my game, never changing the channel..."

Debating on forums such as this while playing a quick arcade game...

All of the above I mentioned, not even all of the features are worth $500 to me. And that's not mentioning the awesome games coming out for it... It's worth $500 to me when the company that is making it is investing $1 billion into it themselves...

Like I said, I am keeping my $400 reservation for now. As of right now, I see no justification in the $400 investment. But I always give the benefit of the doubt, instead of jumping the gun. I do have 2x of their current gen consoles in my house and don't regret it one bit... Let's hope my $400 is a jackpot as well

I dunno guys, I mean Prometheus had gorgeous visuals, but storywise it fell pretty flat, and the characters were just mind-blowingly stupid.

Me? I think Ridley Scott needs to team up with some better writers if he wants to make more quality films in the future.

I'm confused. You want to know why the PS4 is better than the XBOne, but you want to ignore graphics quality and the price point? Is there really anything left? I mean, heck, if you're going to ignore graphics and price, you may as well as pick up a PS2.

Why not pick up a Wii U or an Apple TV instead of a PS3? At least that way if you stop paying for an xbox gold sub, at least you can continue watching Netflix or Amazon Prime.

Dude, are you like copying and pasting your rants? I've literally seen you go on about the same exact thing in the comments and various parts of this forum saying the EXACT SAME THING each and every time.

We know where you stand in regards to the consoles. Buy what you like. Not sure why we should care, let alone tell you how to spend your dollar. That's up to you. Just remember that just as we're not going to tell you how to spend your dollar, don't sit and try to convince us how we should spend our money when it's obvious our opinions differ.

TL;DR: stahp.

I have no idea WTH you are on about...learn to post coherently and try to make sense, otherwise, avoid posting on Neowin.

Just FYI, the console that costs $100 more is not the one with the 50% better GPU...

And learn to behave...

I already have a Wii U in my household (my 8yr old got luck) and not worth it in its current state... There were 2system updates and the system is still slow (and thats just jumping through menus)... and no system selling game for it yet... It is still dependent on its legacy titles to hold it over...

I have 2x PS3's in my household, and I don't regret buying 2 of them... But I can't justify the $400 for the newer version... Like I said.... I am speaking from as of today...  Tomorrow all the way till launch may be nothing buy awesomeness...  But a new graphics card and $100 savings is not a decade long bragging point..

Read the Title... what does $400 get me... A graphics boost isn't enough... nor is $100 difference... if you don't have an answer, don't chew me out over it...

I just want to know what its gets me as of right now...

Why should we be doing research for you? If you don't care enough to look up the differences yourself then why should we?

In the end buy whatever is most appealing to you, I don't see why you need a forum of people to convince you otherwise.

I was going to say some, but I corrected myself... a lot of people are incapable of making decisions for themselves, that's why they need TV, Internet, Friends, etc. to do their research for them and make up their mind for them. Quite sad actually.

The point is I know exactly what my $500 will get me...

I also know as of right now what $400 will get me...

I'd rather the $400 machine be priced at $500 and come with its very nice (don't wanna pay $200 for it) handheld...

Like I said, I still have $400 for a spot in line... and day and date delivery on it... and some games...

And the $500 is still the better investment...

So basically you're saying that you want the PS4 to be $300 instead of $400?

How have none of your posts included the point of owning a console: games. Whatever your console choice maybe you should factor in exclusives, I've been an Xbox guy since 2001 but I do have a PS4 pre-ordered. Both will have exclusives but when the consoles share multiplatforms while also getting MANY more exclusives, up front, ignoring your point about $1B investment. try focusing on games and factoring that in.

I think the point the OP is trying to make, I may be mistaken is that because he sees a lot of bashing of the Xbox One, and that the Xbox One does have more functionality (Kinect, and TV stuff), he wants to know why people say go for the PS4 when it's "only" $100 cheaper but less features (and theoretically "more power"...well at least that's the consensus).

I too am getting both systems, and in my opinion, the Xbox One does give you more for the amount you are paying (which is more). It comes down to personal preference, but yea, people really can't give you a answer more than "power" (and we see how much the PS3 was graphically superior to the 360...eh) and $100 less. That really is the difference. You get what you pay for I guess. Nobody knows how the online experience is going to be, which I'm sure we can all agree that Xbox Live is superior to Playstation Network, but we don't know the changes that can make one better than the other. But these things will all change, and people are buying for the now. We'll see how these things evolve over time.

It does come down to games as well. But just console feature for feature...eh.

A PS4 with Vita costing $500 would be a much better investment...

making the Vita $100...

Thank you... Both will have amazing games... I will not doubt that... But once you go over $300 for a console this day in age... it better give more bang for the buck... when people do the PC comparison, well get what a PC can do for what it cost... multiple things at once...

A Vita pack in for $500 is a better value than a $400 box alone

As far as I can remember, the 360 had almost the same price as One will have at launch (at least in Norway). Because of inflation, prices go up every year. So actually, being what, 7 years after 360 launch, with almost the same launch price, I'd say you get more for the buck now then we did "back then".

So "but once you go over $300 for a console this day in age... it better give more bang for the buck" seems wrong to me. One and PS4 is actually cheaper then the current gen consoles was.

Seriously 1st world problem, what to do with $400

I don't look at it like that... My having money to get these things are a blessing by GOD almighty whom i believe in...

All the things I've been blessed with come by faith...

I've been a blessing onto others,  so I get blessed back...

And real world problems always have to be handled before things like this are purchased... that includes real world problems for complete strangers as well...

Let's try to keep religion out of this as it doesn't really have a place in this conversation. You could always wait for both platforms to be released and then decide which to go with, you know.

Trying to keep it real... not trying to offend...

I am going to wait for both to release... but the XB1 is set in stone... there is already a Wii U in my house now... ANd I believe the PS4 would be of great value if the PS VIta were bundled in for $500....

Going from $400 to $500 is not a bother to me if the value is there...

Heck I preorded my xbone and the guy asked me why I wanna spend 100 more for 50% lower graphics.  I told him first of all that's ALL ps4 has and second the graphics will look the damn same. Specs on paper have NEVER =same real life performance so we don't know. Oh and I had ps4 preordered from amazon.
