Hi and Welcome,

Sorry, I cannot help you in your problem, you may need to wait for microsoft to apply a patch for it, just a game of patience right now I'm afraid.

And hopefully someone more in the know about win8 might pick this up in a day or so, (possibly sooner)

What about CheckSur? You can find detailed information about running this tool that is built into Windows 8 Here

Unfortunately it is sometimes difficult to fix Windows Update when it breaks. I recommend that you take Marshall's suggestion and run Microsoft's System Update Readiness utility (CheckSUR) if you haven't already. It might also be helpful to run a chkdsk scan (chkdsk /r /f from an administrative command prompt) to make sure your file system is not the problem. If neither of those solves your problem, I have a utility that might help: AU Check.

I posted an earlier version of AU Check on Neowin years ago, but that version is long outdated. I no longer work in IT or have to fix computers on a regular basis, so I no longer maintain the utility. Some of its functions are OS version specific, therefore the most recent version of Windows with explicit support is Windows 7. That said, although I have not tested this assumption, it should work on Windows 8. Try AU Check if the other suggestions fail. It might solve your problem. The most recent version is attached to this post.
