Using an Apple Keyboard on a Windows PC

Recommended Posts

I have been a mac user for a few years, and I'm returning to Windows, I've already ordered components I need to make the build, however one of the things I really like about my Apple machine is the USB keyboard. It's very easy and fast to type on, whilst being nice and quiet. So can I just plug it in, in WIndows and use it as a standard keyboard? (I don't mind if the Apple only functions stop working).

If the answer is yes I have a few additional questions:

  1. Do keys like FN which are in the same place as print screen on a normal keyboard, gain the functions of a normal keyboard?
  2. What key becomes the Win Key?
  3. What happens to f13 - f19?

I've never used the extended Apple keyboard in Windows, but I can tell you that the command key will become your Windows key, with alt/option and control keeping their Windows equivalent actions, if you install the bootcamp drivers you'll also be able to use the function key commands, such as volume up/down etc that are on the keyboard.

edit: Also yes, the keyboard will work out of the box with Windows, I've used all manner of Mac keyboards with Windows, from the 'bondi' blue iMac G3 up to the bluetooth slim and never had a problem with them.
