BSOD During Start Up

Recommended Posts

I have been recently receiving a blue screen of death during start up. I have a Dell Inspiron 570 with Athlon II X4, 6gb of ram, HD Radeon 6670 and a 1TB hard drive. It happens only once in a while.

hmmm tried to update your drivers? GPU, etc? I remember the old days i had issues with my 8600GT and Vista, driver update worked, just a guess (check all drivers, not only GPU)..

also, what error the screen shows? it can help better than that report you showed cause usually the BSOD points the file or the cause

MY computer boots up past the boot screen, then past the Windows 7 logo, then sits and gets the BSOD. I get the BSOD occasionally

1a is to do with memory management, which is usually caused either by bad memory or a bad memory controller. I'd recommend running a memory test to see if your RAM is bad, sometimes it can also happen if you have mismatched ram as well. You may also want to check your RAM to make sure that it is seated properly and that there's no dust or other debris in the slots.

BSOD is essentially a conflict (like IRQ or something addressing the same memory location as somthing else) or a driver issue. They happen when the OS looks for something in RAM and it isn't there. It panics and to protect itself from what it precieves as something BAD, it BSOD and powers off/reboots.

Starting up in safe mode negates the drivers. Where its a random occurance and not consistent the driver issue would have to be something removable, or the conflict would likley be related to a specific condition/attached piece of hardware.

Only thing worse than a BSOD on a computer is a random BSOD. Good luck. You may want to put windows 7 normal boot in 'verbose' or 'detailed' booting to see hopefully whats being loaded when the BSOD happens. https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=WbdhvvwuX_0#t=85s

If this is happening post-boot its rogue software (admin privilages writing wherever it wants) or bad memory.

I noticed when I turn my wireless mouse and keyboard on the BSOD doesn't occur. I had the mouse and keyboard off when the BSOD did happen.

Look like your memory might be bad. Try to run on a different piece to see if you get any BSOD. If you have two pieces, test them individually.

My friend had the same issue.  We could not figure it out.  It would also get BSOD in safe mode sometimes.  ntoskrnl.exe was also the problem.  Memory and other diagnostics were fine.  We eventually formatted and installed a fresh copy of Windows 8 since he no longer had Windows 7 or his product key and he has had no problems since.

Did you recently have a malware infection?  My friend did, and since then his ntoskrnl was giving us issues.  Maybe it needs to be repaired?

Try a clean boot and safe mode.  Does that help?  Have you tried a different user profile?
