My Family Tragedy: 1 Mo Old Lumia 928's Violent Death (Gory Pics)

Recommended Posts

It's was the 4th of July and we were out at lunch on a joyous afternoon of reverie and indulgence. And she was there, giving life to conversations, making us all laugh. She was only 1 month old, and already she knew so much.

My brother asked if he could hold her for a minute. He just wanted to ask her a few questions.

We locked eyes/screens, I smiled to her and she back at me, and then gingerly I set her into my brother's hands.

The next time I saw her, she looked like this:

Now she's in a USPS body bag, off to the phone morgue. I'll never forget our long nights locked in passionate information giving and receiving though.

Looks like it was dropped right on the corner and then bounced and then hit the opposite corner.

Sorry to hear that ... can you possibly replace the screen instead of throwing it away? You can look for replacement screen on the websites such as ebay, amazon, etc.

He says it just slipped out of his hand as he was standing up. It fell on concrete.

It looks to me like he threw at the ground though :)

Exactly. The force of the two impacts looks to have happened just at the edge of each corner, at just the right spot to cause sure damage. The body's scuffed on each corner too.

I've seen drop tests of 920s from about 6 feet onto pavement and the corners were just a little scuffed. I'm thinking that since the face extends almost right the the edge on the 928, it's a little more prone to impact. Probably dead on corner at 90 degrees is ok, but face down at 45 degrees and Houston's got a problem.

I don't trust it. It's probably not a bad way to go, I don't know. But, I had insurance so it was just easier to replace it, and I know it's brand new.

She got in an accident and was all busted up. I'm very superficial :)

Does your brother yet live?

I just smiled at first. I knew what an idiot he felt like, and since I'm his big brother, that's payment enough :)

I won't lie though. I snapped a little when he kept going on about how it shouldn't have broken, and he didn't know he needed to baby it (he doesn't have a smart phone). I said, "No. It's just something you have to take care of and be responsible with"

He shut up :)

Insurance is good thing.

If not, you can fix it on your own.. cheaper that way.

Some guy put his HTC phone on his lap and then it fell off onto the concrete floor (only 2 ft fall from his lap)... his phone got shattered.  He got it fixed for $60 dollars because no insurance.

If you research, you might be able to get it fixed much cheaper. Unless you have insurance, you can get it fixed by phone tech at your local store.

My cousin got his iPhone fixed for $30 dollars that he fixed it by himself.

How much to fix the damage to the concrete?

A Nokia hitting it.... Jeez....

Isn't gorilla glass supposed to be more tense in the edges, hence why it will always be more prone to completely  shattering if the edge gets hit?

Sorry for her, good thing she was easily replaceable :shifty:

That's a good point, I don't know. I just assumed that if the corner hit it might cause the glass to convex more (or more awkwardly) from the impact. I've no idea what I'm talking about though, it's just an assumption.

Thank you for your condolences :)

That screen is thoroughly broken,  I am impressed!   Hard to smash it in exact same way even if you try.

LOL at the spiderman edition comment!

Are you saying she was fat? How dare you. Unbelievably insensitive.

She was a little bit heavier than average, sure. But she was tight, all muscle, like a Russian Volley Ball player.

I hope this isn't a sign that all her sister's are getting soft as they get a new addition.

Honestly, that thought had crossed the dark recesses of my mind before I could snuff it out. I've seen a lot of stress tests of the 920, but none of the 928.

Still, I firmly believe that it broke because it fell in just the right way, at just the right angle, with a rare force and angular momentum, at high tide, while Mercury and Venus were aligned with Mars. That's my story and I'm sticking to it until someone busts one on YouTube :)

My wife has dropped her 920 from about 4' on a concrete floor and it came out it with just minor dent in a corner same with a friend who dropped his 920 on concrete over the weekend. His phone fortunately didnot land on the glass but on a corner. It has a minor blemish now but that sidewalk on the other hand... :shifty:
