Florida Accidentally Bans All Computers, Smart Phones In The State

Recommended Posts

No different, better/worse than any other bloomin' US State or foreign country.

Well, Florida certainly has plenty of competition with other US states I'll grant you that - Texas is another front-runner. The problem here is that even were it not for the mistake the idea of banning all internet caf?s is ridiculous, especially when it was simply a knee-jerk reaction. It's wrong to force thousands of businesses to close at a whim, especially when the scandal was related to government in the first place.

So...no more high tech gadgets and computers for CSI: Miami then.

Also if this law was passed in a hurry who's to say that there isn't more laws like this one that are full of legal holes?

The issue was in the legal system in Florida House and Senate since 2012. The situation was causing 2 major issues. (1) Bleeding dry older retired folks on fixed incomes who were becoming addicted to the "gambling" bug and (2) Weekly, violent strong arm robberies at the locations because of the large amount of cash on hand. Just go on youtube and search for "Internet Cafe Robbery Florida".

The spirit of the law is to protect the citizens of the state in a few different ways.

Sometimes the worst things done in the history of mankind, were things done with the best of intentions...just a thought.

...

It's too bad he didn't bother cutting out D.C. as well while he was at it...

The fact is most legislation isn't written by the lawmakers but by Legislative Assistants. The legislator tells them their position and they translate it into legalese, often badly. See Obamacare, or any number of other laws that trampled the Law of Unintended Consequences.

Surely this problem can be fixed pretty quickly by removing the need for law to be written in legalese and use common English, maybe people would actually understand it then also :P

Outlawing Internet cafes is absolutely idiotic, some people may have used them to gamble but they are a useful resource for a lot of people.

I -really- don't understand why the US government tries to hard to stop people gambling anyway. Making it illegal is just as stupid as prohibition was...

It makes absolutely zero sense to ban internet cafe's anyway. Some people have not got the luxury of internet access 24/7, some may like to go out and still use a computer just for the change of scenery. What a stupid, ignorant thing to do!

Wow that was great, even still one case of a robbery or a scandal shouldn't result in the end of all internet cafes.
